observe carefully
dekho H bonding kahan kahan hai
d me carbon goes from sp2 to sp3 so that releases some strain
baaki me h bonding
A is the very famous choral hydrate ( first gem diol to be ever isolated) and is stable because of hydrogen bonding
B me there’s good hydrogen bonding but high repulsions as well so I’m not really sure
C me both the OH are involved in hydrogen bonding
D me there is no such factor
Rather as @Imine said… formation of the carbonyl by release of H2O actually relieves some strain because of the hybridisation change of the carbon from sp3 to sp2
