SMP 1.21.6 suggestions?
Hello! I'm looking to create a SMP 1.21.6 server, specifically for the new ghasts and DH. I've heard there are mods which port the new ghasts to other version, though. Should I run 1.21.6 or another version with the ghast mods?
Also, any suggestions for SMP QoL/Vanilla+ mods/plugins? Looking to keep it pretty vanilla but open to all fun suggestions, anything to keep it interesting. Any world gen mods worth looking in to?

If the happy ghast is all you need, take the mod route. If you also prefer all the additional features and bug fixes in 1.21.6, go for 1.21.7.
Maybe a Paper server with the DH plugin and ViaVersion?
A pretty standard setup for me would be:
Paper server with
* LuckPerms, for permissions
* CoreProtect, for logging player actions and the ability to roll back grief
* BlueMap, for a web map
* DH Support, for Distant Horizons
* WorldEdit (or FAWE), for admins to terraform or build large structures fast
* WorldEditSUI, to visualize WorldEdit selections without client mods
* MapModCompanion, to let minimap mods such as Xaero's work properly in proxied setups (not necessary if you don't run a proxy such as BungeeCord, Waterfall, or Velocity)
* Floodgate, to have working online mode authentication for Bedrock clients when using Geyser on a proxy
Then but that Paper server behind Velocity with
* LuckPerms, for permissions
* ViaVersion, to allow newer clients to connect even if the server is on a older version
* Geyser, to allow Bedrock clients to connect
Then depending on your community you might want some sort of Discord integration running on the proxy (if you have a proxy) or the server (if you don't have a proxy), and/or SimpleVoiceChat.
Those are the basics at least. You would build from there with datapacks for more exciting worlds, minigames, PvP/PvE areas or sub-servers, and so on.

Do you like the locator bar where it shows the direction of players straight from your XP bar?
If yes, then go with 1.21.6/7, otherwise go with the mod I guess.
