Getting Need for Speed Heat & Hot Pursuit Remastered to run
Heyhey, I need to help to get Need for Speed Heat & Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered to run on bazzite.
I can not get either game to launch at all.
Following the tinker steps on protondb does not work for me, because my winecfg does not have a "staging" tab.
I tried multiple different Proton versions; the "best" I've seen is Nfs Heat opening the EA app, that saying "install" and then closing.
If possible, I'd also like to install Mods for NFS Heat (apparently only possible using FrostyModManager), has anyone got that to run on a bazzite system?

Ok, so, I managed to fix it. Ultimately, I was having two separate problems that needed fixing.
1.) The EA Games app does not work well when installed through steam. On some proton versions it worked, on others it couldnt even be installed, because the buttons would not appear in the UI.
The failsafe way to fix it I found is this: download the game, choose a fixed proton version to try it with (used 9.0 now) and start the game to creat the compatdata files (the proton prefix data). Once that is done, use protontricks to open the proton files context and run an arbitrary .exe. We use this to run a manually downloaded windows installer for the EA App. It installed fine. This causes the game to load up the successfully installed App instead of trying to install on game launch, which fixes the issue.
2.) for modding NFS Heat on Bazzite, I had a whole lot of hoops to jump through. Ultimaltely, this git here had the correct pointers for me: https://gist.github.com/famellad/3a602756b0575dd421bd3b96cadb1462. I was missing a fixed version for FrostyModManager for Linux (I used https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectandromeda/mods/1190) and the related fixes here https://github.com/505e06b2/FrostyToolsuite-Linux.
i was a bit too early being happy about the mods though. Can't get a single mod to run, it always crashes when I enter the parts shop. Welp!
