[BUG REPORT] AMD FreeSync/VRR Not Activating Black Screen

[BUG] FreeSync/VRR Not Activating - RX 6700 XT, Acer VG270 (HDMI), Bazzite KDE Wayland

Problem: FreeSync (VRR) enabled in KDE Plasma (Wayland) causes severe flickering/black screens, especially with mouse movement.

Regression: Started with kernel 6.15.4-106.bazzite.fc42.x86_64 (approx. 2025-07-08). Previously worked.

Key Findings:
  1. Monitor OSD ALWAYS shows 100 Hz. VRR is NOT activating on the display itself, despite being enabled in OS.
  2. KDE compositor performance stats also show constant 100 FPS.
  3. EDID confirmed 48-100 Hz FreeSync range.
  4. Briefly booting Windows then returning to Linux temporarily resolves issue (suggests negotiation problem).
  5. Similar VRR flickering issues reported by NVIDIA users on Wayland (2023 posts).
Troubleshooting:
  • Checked EDID, correct.
  • POWERDEVIL_NO_DDCUTIL=1 attempted - no fix.
  • Monitor's VRB/Overdrive settings are off/irrelevant.
Request: Seeking fix for VRR activation/negotiation within amdgpu driver, Wayland, or KWin. Currently forced to disable FreeSync.
