Extreme Weather vs Fashion - Topic of the day 7/11/25
It's high summer for many (and low winter for everyone else) which begs the question - is there a point where it's too hot/too cold/too wet/too windy to wear your specific aesthetic? To what extent does the particular occasion or particular weather apply? Looking for direct advice on how to dress for if it's hot, cold, rainy, windy, etc? Search

i buy loose knits with lots of holes in em specifically for this reason
Not really. There are days that are so hot/humid I don't want to be outside and no piece of clothing can change that, but I like clothing that is still useful/functional on some level
Loose fitting clothing I think lends itself well to both warm and cold weather as well and is a good insulator. In the winter you can pair base layers with loose layers over top too and have no issue staying warm
If I'm mountaineering or something that's a different set of circumstances but still think you can find things that are consistent with your taste even in more utility driven scenarios
linen
loose fit

Like 2 summers ago I found out that cotton maxi dresses act like a wearable parasol for your legs and I haven’t looked back since
My dream is a Gunne Sax one, the would be so sick
and fitting my aesthetic
I just buy everything from Outlier so I can dress for every combination of humidity, temperature and windspeed.
a lot of sheer tops (if you're self conscious you can wear something under, or a nude colored undershirt), tech fabrics, etc
linen blends help a lot but only up to a point, esp if its humid, tech is a lot better in those extreme cases
i just wish the cuts were a bit better tbh
but they cut for their audience which is fair
futurehighdarts is probably the closest cut that I've liked but they have a heavy taper which is less popular these days
still beats most of the other tech fabric pants cuts from other makers tho
yeah but i have a weird luddite aversion to tech fabrics
owned?
I actually only have Bombworks and New Way shorts. Their shit is good but haven’t been enticed by anything lately
whispers snow peak
i’m aware
Its mostly too rainy thats an issue for me. At some point you just dress to minimize wetness. Doesn't help that I am an all-weather-cyclist.
But those days are rare
mostly I just throw a rain poncho over what I am wearing and tough it out.
Ultimately I think I could propably build a fun dedicated outfit for these occasions as well if I really wanted to, but its not really worth it.
I lowkey dream of a bold yellow oilskin for these occasiond though
I got one a few months ago, best decision of my life
Definitely recommend getting one
just looking progressively more and more like a childrens book character :letsfuckinggo:
That‘s always been the goal:letsfuckinggo:
I get hot so easily. It's taken a while to find an intersection between good-looking and good-feeling that doesn't compromise one or the other for me, and it's still narrow
yeah, for me the only weather I care much about is rain. I’m generally happy to still wear jeans, long sleeve shirts etc. in warmer weather as I think I’d feel more uncomfortable in shorts or a short sleeve top compared to uncomfortable due to heat
shorts and tank tops all summer
Winter sucks and makes dressing hard!
I bought a huge down puffer from entire studios which has been serving me okay so far through the current winter
I feel very well prepared for winter, now that I have finally joined beeg coat gang.
I need a good slutty mesh top for ventilation
Bur theyre all made of plastic
:DONOTLETHIMCOOK:
i need a new big coat but gonna hold off a while i think
It’s okay it’s still slutty
The cool cotton ones are all like $100+, found a poly one at the thrift for $6. Hard to say no
