Clicking 'play' in steam doesn't launch the game?

I'm trying to launch a game through steam, but I keep coming across an issue. Whenever I hit the 'play' button on the game within steam, it says that it's running for about fifteen seconds, then the button turns back to the green 'play' one and it doesn't open. I don't hear any music or see any screens open up.

Here's the log for trying to open through steam. I've tried to take the exe file and make it a separate game on Heroic and open that - but it doesn't open anything - and neither does opening the exe through the local files and just trying to launch it that way. I've also tried uninstalling Heroic fully, reinstalling, uninstalling Steam on it, reinstalling, and then playing again, but I'm getting the same thing as before.

I am a little confused you say "the problem is that Steam isn't running," but you describe the issue like steam is running just not launching games.
Secondly try changing the setting in setting, like turning off esync or msync or DVXK or on if their off. Or changing Wine from crossover to GPTK and seeing if CS 2 runs. There might not be a setting that will work for every game, so you might need to change setting now and again. There was over with Whisky.app ( now defunked) a setting for CS2 that might still work now, not harm in trying. Hope this helps.
