How do I install programs outside of Bazaar?
I have a few programs that I am trying to install on bazzite that I am now lost on how to install. They are compatible with Linux so I know that's not the issue. Specifically I have the .Deb files and tar.gz files for things, however I am unsure how to install them after looking online. One program in particular that I am trying to do is discord because installing from the Bazzar does not allow for discord to pick up games I am playing. I thought I figured it out the other night until I launched my PC this morning.

vesktop has working rich prescence i think
use that instead of discord's native client
discords downloadable install from their website is infinitely worse than their flatpak
what else are you trying to install
As a general guide: https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/
Installing and Managing Applications - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
Debs can be installed in distroboxes and integrated in the desktop if there's no better alternative.
I'm looking through that now again and seeing if I missed anything
Vesktop app image is capable of no hassle game detection
theres usually a better alternative
hence why this is relevant
the discord deb handles updates in the worst way possible - anytime an update is available it locks you out of the client until you download and install the application again from their website
If you're used to ubuntu, having an ubuntu distrobox is quite nice. Helped my transition quite a bit.
Discord was how I figured out what I did last night didn't work. I have a few programs like unreal, firealpaca, gimp (which I realized has a flatpack 🤦🏻), unity, and GitHub desktop. There are a few more but I'm looking through them again now. Mind you last night I was very tired
unreal engine u probably want a distrobox for
gimp u absolutely should just download from bazaar
The official archive from Epic contains everything, or doesn't it? What would be the benefit of running it in distrobox?
i mean the alternative is layering it
which can mess with bazzite updates
No, you just download the archive, extract it and run
?
run what
Unreal Engine
in what package format
Epic Games Developer
Linux Development Quickstart for Unreal Engine | Unreal Engine 5.6 ...
Get started developing with Unreal Engine on Linux.
i cant actually look at the website because i dont have an epic games account
what actual files do they provide
I once installed it and it run using the official instructions. The only downside is you have to manually create a desktop entry
🤔

suspicious of this
unhelpfully vague
anyway it looks like firealpaca has an appimage which i guess can be used if necessary
@bodyofbirds with the vencord do you happen to know where the scale setting went for discord on it?
It's normally under appearance
?
this?

There's a setting that scales the discord ui
hold ctrl and press + and -
is that what u want
Omg 🤦🏻 I feel dumb today
nice
Thanks so much
anyway a lot of what u wanna install sounds like game dev tools
It is
i would look into the progress of the bazzite-gdx image
im not sure where its at
I'll look into it
its supposed to have a lot of dev/gamedev stuff preinstalled
I want my gaming and making games
when installing stuff you should be following the order of priority in the bazzite docs for managing applications whenever you can
here
Good to know! I'll make sure that's what I follow when I can
making a custom image is sometimes also recommended prior to layering
for certain things
layering is like absolute last resort, generally u want everything in containers
I'll keep that in mind
https://dev.bazzite.gg/ it looks like bazzite-dx is already ready but bazzite-gdx is still being worked on
Bazzite - Next-gen Linux gaming, now for your workstation
Bazzite DX brings the best of Linux to your workstation, with GDX catered to game developers!
you could easily rebase to dx to check it out and then rebase back if it doesnt have what u need
I will look into it for sure and see
what version of vesktop? i'm using the flatpak of vesktop from bazaar and rich presence doesn't work on bazzite for me
idk I don't care abt rich prescense I just remember it being a toggle in setup
i think it only picks up some things
