How do I install programs outside of Bazaar?

I have a few programs that I am trying to install on bazzite that I am now lost on how to install. They are compatible with Linux so I know that's not the issue. Specifically I have the .Deb files and tar.gz files for things, however I am unsure how to install them after looking online. One program in particular that I am trying to do is discord because installing from the Bazzar does not allow for discord to pick up games I am playing. I thought I figured it out the other night until I launched my PC this morning.

vesktop has working rich prescence i think use that instead of discord's native client discords downloadable install from their website is infinitely worse than their flatpak what else are you trying to install

Debs can be installed in distroboxes and integrated in the desktop if there's no better alternative.

I'm looking through that now again and seeing if I missed anything

Vesktop app image is capable of no hassle game detection

theres usually a better alternative hence why this is relevant the discord deb handles updates in the worst way possible - anytime an update is available it locks you out of the client until you download and install the application again from their website

If you're used to ubuntu, having an ubuntu distrobox is quite nice. Helped my transition quite a bit.

Discord was how I figured out what I did last night didn't work. I have a few programs like unreal, firealpaca, gimp (which I realized has a flatpack 🤦🏻), unity, and GitHub desktop. There are a few more but I'm looking through them again now. Mind you last night I was very tired

The official archive from Epic contains everything, or doesn't it? What would be the benefit of running it in distrobox?

i mean the alternative is layering it which can mess with bazzite updates
Chris

No, you just download the archive, extract it and run

I once installed it and it run using the official instructions. The only downside is you have to manually create a desktop entry

suspicious of this unhelpfully vague anyway it looks like firealpaca has an appimage which i guess can be used if necessary

when installing stuff you should be following the order of priority in the bazzite docs for managing applications whenever you can here

Good to know! I'll make sure that's what I follow when I can

making a custom image is sometimes also recommended prior to layering for certain things layering is like absolute last resort, generally u want everything in containers
The_Redpool
The_RedpoolOP2mo ago
I'll keep that in mind
