What kind of specs would I need to host a modded server on my own.

I always see people recommend running a server off and old pc or laptop instead of paying for a server host and I want to give it a try but I'd like to know how powerful of a system I'd need to get so I can get an idea of how much it'd cost me. I often set up mid to large modpack servers with usually around 10-15 of my friends.

For 10-15 players and large modpacks I would say at least 8-12GB RAM and something like a Ryzen 5 5600, but I don't have much experience in modded.

hosts are usually better, the cost of hardware, power, business internet, repairs etc usually make selfhosting not worth it

Home hosting has its drawbacks / caveats
- Is your internet connection fast enough? In both directions (around 50M is usually enough; you should check here)? You don't connect the server to your router via WiFi, do you? - Does your ISP provide a somewhat static, public, IPv4 address? - Are you aware and able to deal with the security impliations? - Is your computer powerful enough to run both a client and a server? - Does any inhabitant (human or not!) mind the noise, heat and energy cost of a machine running 24/7? - Alternatively, is your playerbase OK with the server not being there when you aren't?
