Slow download speeds in steam
I just got the OS up and running last night, started to install steam games and my download speeds went from taking minutes to hrs. Like 16-27 hrs. I have a 10G fiber card and thats what I am using as my main networking. I'm not sure if I need drivers or if there is extra configuration I need to do.

Some more context, the network speed to my computer is fine and l'm not having ISP problems. I will test a large file download from the Internet via my browser when I get home.
I've been dealing with a similar problem for a while now (couple years? XD) despite having gigabit internet, download speeds go up and down just like on your screenshot. However it ONLY happens on Steam. Downloading games through Heroic (Epic, GOG) is really fast with stable connection speed throughout.

Have you checked in your download settings to make sure it hasnt set any limits or the download location hasnt changed

I've prob tried everything and just came to the conclusion it might be my ISP
Yup, not set.
I did a speed test this morning and it's the same speed as I always get.
I also noticed the negotiation on the network settings for the card was set to auto and so I set that to manual and set the speed to 10G. Just to see if that made a difference and it didn't. Im wondering if it has to do with the disks still running as a windows formatted disks and I just need to format the disk, but Im not sure.
I only have Linux on my disk.
How is it in other launchers, like Heroic? Does it only occur on Steam?
I will try gog when I get home.
Good to know.
Also I never have had this issue on windows.
Yeah, me neither 😅
So guild wars 2 launcher download is fine.
And its even slower on the built in ethernet port on my mobo
Also the beta branch crashes after N min.
So Steam only?
ya the beta branch of the steam client
I know, but are slow downloads only on Steam?
I think so. I need to find large files to dl.

but 7GB in 2 min is speedy
Wait this maybe just an issue with oblivion, going to test with another game.
If you're running games from ntfs. Stop now and fix that first. You'll run into all kind of issues at any point.
ya that is it. I installed it on the new OS drive and things are back to normalish

not as fast as it was but fast as it was but meh, faster is better.
lmk if download speeds stay stable or if they drop
