mechanics- movement of a rod on a smooth floor

in this problem, I know that the centre of the rod (com) will move vertically downwards in a straight line, as there's no horizontal force. what about the end a of the rod, im having trouble visualising. Plus, if the floor wasn't smooth, what would the trajectories of 1. com 2. point A be like.

Won't the horizontal part also have an acceleration? Due to gravity
