Tried changing from UEFI to Legacy CSM modeDisable csm, it will only bring problems when installing
I changed it back, just enabled it to try and see if it was the problem
No changes though
@AKRJ
You probably would want to try wiping these bazzite partitions leftovers, and try the automatic mode
It's Fedora Kinoite btw, just labeled them Bazzite for whatever reason
A, then nvm
I'll try the automatic then, hopefully it don't break my windows install, even though it's fresh
Won't work with the kinoite installer
Well actually may
I'll use the Bazzite one though?
But would be less troublesome by using the bazzite liveisos yeah
I just installed Kinoite to see if I could rebase from there, but I couldn't even boot into the os
Weird
Kinoite should at least work
they couldnt even boot the regular bazzite iso
non live
something is cursed
I am, probably
try wiping everything and do automatic install with the bazzite installer like zeglius said
I think I heard the live iso is gonna come with bootloader repair tools at some point anyway?
so maybe less of a concern🤷♀️
It already has the bootloader repair, but it didn't do nothing
no, I mean in the case of installing with automatic partitioning and then having Windows nuke your EFI
Already comes with one
am I correct in assuming automatic partitioning for a dual boot is less of a bad idea now that that exists
Yeah, though the script is in beta, so can't guarantee it will work 100%
I tested and it does work
But I need more ppl to test it
more reason for vini to try then
cool
Once I get back home, I'll test it
Hopefully it'll not nuke the whole drive and make I nuke myself out
just don't delete any windows partitions
I'll use the automatic install, will I even have any way to do it?
I would manually delete the leftovers and leave it as a big block of unallocated before doing automatic install
Oh, I'll do that yes, on Windows, btw, to make sure it's free space before entering Bazzite installer
Just got home
@bodyofbirds I can't delete EFI partition through Windows Disk Manager
lole
yea
I think u need to do it in terminal if u wanna do it through windows
otherwise ppl would be deleting their efi by accident
Do you know how? I'm looking up but it's a bit confusing
Live iso, gnome disk and delete the partition
^easier
Did it through terminal
Feeling proud of myself
I hate myself

Seems to be the same error as the one I faced with Fedora
what steps got u here
FMW > Live ISO > Install to Hard Drive > Selected only the disk that Windows is installed to (50/50 split) > Automatic > Create User > Install > Reboot > enroll MOK key > reboot > enable SB > reboot > here
boot back into the live environment and look at what partition scheme it created
Should I do something here?

BTW, 2 Fedora options, but both lead to the same mount error screen after the grub 2.18
idk if this'll help but I still wanna see it
Here

Every partition is labeled as
(No Automount)
, don't know if that mattersAnd you say not even kinoite was able to install?
I still can´t create EFI File System partitions, even if I try to install Bazzite on another drive that's completely empty
It installs, but it doesn´t boot/mount whatever
it just kernel panic'd, but did installed normally
Mmmm
This is what happens when I try to boot on Kinoite after installing it

unknown block
Seems to be the same error on the Bazzite automatic install I just did
that's strange too, since I've linked to guide for dual boot
This one
should've helped, but I guess not
Okay so, no fedora kinoite, nor bazzite
I followed it perfectly, 1st I followed the video one, then I tried the written one, with no labels
What could be the common denominator of failure?
Maybe ventoy?
FMW
And Ventoy
Both gave the same error
So that leave us with the installer itself perhaps
But why are both Kinoite and Bazzite installers being so stuborns?
But no error shows up during installation
None
It says it installed successifully and that I should reboot to enter OS
Okay so, let's try fedora workstation and FMW
Is it my hardware, perhaps?
If at that point it fails, could be definitely anaconda
Maybe, but what makes you think that?
For whatever reason it`s incompatible or something?
Everyone else seems to install it just fine
People much more layman than me btw
True
And I tried two different distros
most people aren't installing on the same drive as windows
Two different boot builders
you haven't tried on a blank drive yet
Well not different distros, about the same
If you mean kinoite and bazzite
But Bazzite doesn´t let me create EFI on different drive the same way
but u wanna keep windows around so I assume blank drive isn't an option
you said u only have one drive
Yeah
I didn´t
oh
?
Yeah we basically should be mirroring what they do in that regard
This feels like quite an edge case, potentially something to be dealt with anaconda dunno
I can do this, but I´d need to do it with Ventoy so I can have an Windows image as fallback
If you want an alternative I would recommend nobara
Can I rebase from it to Bazzite?
Heard is the closest to bazzite, without rollbacks and you depend a lot more on the package manager though
nope
Is it good on Nvidia though?
you can install ventoy on linux if you need to
should be, didn't tried it
Assuming I`m able to enter the OS
Mmmm honestly, cant tell, I assume Nvidia should do fine
if blank drive with no dual boot is an option then try installing like that
I`ll prepare the thumb drive then
I assumed u had data on windows u couldn't lose
and only one drive
if u have a second drive just take the windows one out and try installing on second
Nah, it's just for games with trash anti cheat company behind them
Not happening, too stressed out to dismount my GPU (with vertical bracket) to take it out
their whole issue started with EFI partition not being an option when doing manual partitioning in the live iso, is that expected?
do u actually have a second nvme u can install to tho
And non-Live ISO don't boot
SSD
that's the other weird thing
sata?
Yes
I see
Crucial MX500
tbh I'd install windows on that
unless u need it for something
I was expecting to use it as plain game drive
But I just wanna use Bazzite
I don't NEED Windows
I just thought that it'd be nice being able to play BF2042 and maybe a couple other online games
MBR or GPT?

I think gpt
Erased the Windows drive, still can't create EFI partition

Still stuck there without moving a pixel, but I guess it's normal?

yeah it's normal to get stuck
takes a while
No errors, will try to reboot now
🤞
No strength left in me to cross my fingers
I've become so invested
I know it will take a while but just past 5 minutes on this screen, it also went directly to that after POST

did u ever get to this screen before
No
good news
go drink some tea
Oooh seems you managed?
No

bruh
from the booting screen to this?
Can't I try to make it mount or something through this?

Now it shows this screen
Grub 2.12
that was the most sane install u could have done so something is very wrong for sure
maybe ur nvme is failing or something
idfk
all I can think is to just keep changing variables like zeglius said earlier
trying fedora workstation to see if it's anaconda or something
I was sure the presence of windows was causing mystery issues but now that's ruled out
At least something that works, seeing that not even the old iso boots sounds kinda like a lost cause
the worst kind of issue where u don't know the cause
Could it be a kernel issue or something?
Maybe, but then would be specific to your hardware, if it works for everyone else
As expected, the standard ISO didn't work

Wiped all data btw
...
2 hypothesis: NVMe or me removing the thumb drive before the first boot
Why am I saying that?

Ouch
Congrats
In theory, unmounting the thumb drive shouldn't matter after it gets installed
Wait did it work?
I think we are all the same right now
what da hell
the suspense is killing me
Sorry, was helping with some things here
It did work, but I'll try to install on the NVMe again but leaving the thumb drive plugged in when resetting after install
so wait
it worked under what conditions
Already erased the SSD again
Live ISO automatic install on SATA SSD 1TB crucial MX500
so u switched to the other drive
wild
very curious to see if whatever ur about to try makes ur nvme work
Question
Shouldn't I be able to not set user account? Shouldn't it default to Bazzite Bazzite?
yeah u just leave it blank in the installer

I thought if I clicked that create user button I'd have to fill it in
don't think so
Didn't the guy on the dual boot tutorial said so?
easy to try it
Yeah, didn't allow me to leave it blank
I am certain u don't have to set one up but I also don't have anaconda in front of me
Had that impression too, but I digress
Yeah, Linux doesn't like my NVMe

wa
😭
Mystery solved I guess?
Well, at least we know where is the problem
I did call dying nvme a bit ago
anyway that makes two drive dual boot kinda easy since u only have one option
Now I wonder if most of my Windows problems weren't due to a faulty drive/M.2 slot...
could be
Yup
do u have another m.2 slot?
on your mobo
I just find it odd that Windows let me install and boot into it fine
Not weird at all
I do, but both are behind a BFGPU
Windows is like. The minimum requirement for a piece of hardware to be shipped
u could try switching it to the other slot
otherwise u just gotta use ur sata drive
I'd have to remove the GPU and the vertical mount bracket to swap it out to install another NVMe

vertical,,
Nah, I'll buy a 1TB or 2TB NVMe later this year and install it on the other slot
it can't take that long can it
I have to remove the CPU cooler to remove the GPU to remove the drive
what
what kinda dumb computer
Hahaha
I feel the same, worst expense I've done was that bracket
bro my gpu is 1 screw if it's lucky
Now, I think I'll leave the 512 NVMe for windows only and games that only run there
that's definitely a reasonable option
at the moment
Thank God it's the NVMe/slot, I was already looking into a 9800X3D kit
But I definitely don't need it, and would like to get a 9080 XT/9070 XT this year
my rx 6600 already overkill for me I'm ngl
Solution: either my NVMe or my M.2 slot is faulty, maybe both. Could also be just bad luck, but it's most likely a hardware failure problem. Got a Fury Renegade 2TB to test later and see if the problem will persist with it since it's supposed one of the best PCIe Gen4 drives you can get. Will leave the SX8100 512GB NVMe for either windows of direct storage compatible games, idk.
Also, thanks to Zeg, Bob, Haru, Zac and a bunch of other people who suggested solutions and helped me rule out hypothesis.
