HP Omen 16 Install issue...

Hey Everyone... I'm trying to install Bazzite on My HP OMEN 16 Gaming Laptop ( RTX 4060 | i7-13700HX | 32GB RAM | 1TB SSD | 240Hz QHD ) But everytime I try to install, I have to figure out how to go into terminal in grub, and go into nomodset, and the one time I installed it, I was unable to use the trackpad... I think it's something to do with it being a proprietary Elan Touchpad. If anyone can help me with installing it easier, and getting the Touchpad working properly, I'd be more than grateful!

I managed to install it with no problems using the Live ISO

I tried that. But it’s not progressing past a blank screen How long did you have to wait? Do you have the same kind of laptop, and did you have to do nomodeset? And you chose the live iso for the ā€œother laptopā€ and chose modern NVIDIA GPU as the options?

Nope Yes but make sure youre actually pressing the Nvidia setting, I made the wrong mistake of pressing RX 2xxx instead of RTX series + GTX 1650 up I have an HP Omen MAX 16 with a 5080 and an Ultra 9 275HX Installing gave me a plethora of issues (especially with the bootloader itself) now that I'm in, I have no issues at all

I used the Live ISO and used Fedora Media Writer to get it into a 32gb usb I booted from it with really no hassle whatsoever and I just pressed install, configured my keyboard and selected the empty space on my dual boot setup, that was it Bazzite did most of the rest I havent had any issues apart from Wi-Fi disabling itself after sleep mode which I fixed (a bit rudimentarily I must admit) My only real issue was the stupid bootloader from HP not recognising my USB when entering the boot options menu, I had to do a bit of a weird thing for it to recognise it but I got it working in the end And yes, you have to wait some time at a blank screen maybe not a crazy amount of time, but give it a couple minutes for it to do what it gotta do

Ok. I’ll try it again. I’ve been flashing my 16GB drive with balena-etcher. But now I’m try fedora media writer. I’ll update later

Ok. After hitting try bazzite during booting, I’ve let this sit on a blank screen for over 10 minutes and nothing. 20 minutes now. šŸ˜”

Like in the grub menu? The only option there is ā€œtry bazziteā€ And if you meant the bios. I’ve tried switching from NVIDIA Optimus, to discrete and vice versa. No luck

try ubuntu what error do you get i imagine youve disabled secure boot and tpm to install everything just in case
Lord_Phoenix
Lord_PhoenixOP•4mo ago
Yes. I’ve tried those things. I’d figure Ubuntu would give the same issues. Because PopOS is based on it. It either shows a blank screen, or it’ll pull up the startup text of everything, and does t move forward after a point

Bios is fine HP overall is sucky on linux but maybe its salvagable I see your laptop has a MUX switch and you can switch graphics. Put it on hybrid and let me know if that solves the blank screen issue. You can put it back in discrete mode after you installed

the blank screen issue is likely your backlight not working ive had the same issue go hybrid mode to fix it and then back to discrete once its installed
