Hello @__!

Can you resend the image? It's not loading for me
The image is actually blank because I couldn’t find any picture related to my doubt[any picture wouldn't be really helpful ig]. The posting required an attachment, so I had to upload a blank one
(I'm new to this concept so I might be missing something basic)
Oh
@Enamine your domain
Because u need to know the shape of the diagram u will get it easily
Send it

Does that clear it up? @Jeepaglu @__
is it like mandatory for two orbitals to have e density along the same axis to intermix?
moreover, can the z and x axis or the z and y axis form the equatorial plane?
Idk man I feel like I'll need to spend some time more with this
then these doubts will automatically clear up
What if the plane horizontal is xz or yz plane
Internuclear axis ke hisab se change kar lo
Ahmm geometrically accessible hona chahiye like
see I kind of feel like
if we switch up these axes
we'll have to swicth the names of the orbitals themselves(this is just like a very vague guess which prob isnt true)
so for the sake of the simplicity
Ill just ask
why is the d orbital having that single dumb bell shape with a ring is involved in sp3d hybridisation
@Enamine

Like agar aisa hai toh dz2 kaha rakhenge
I am just asking maybe this could be completely wrong
Sorry the horizontal axis is z
Not y
Oh wait mujhe samajh gya
Why not? Most of its electron density is on the axis
Wait
Nvm
Won't pz and dz2 orbitals collide
Yeah that's what I am asking
Ohhh
And won't the negative plane around the dz2 orbital collide with the px py orbitlad
Which mean we can't take dx2-y2
Because it will intersect the plane
So dz2 is the only choice
I get it
What about non axial
Like dxy
They would also intersect in case the horizontal plane is xz
That is not a hybrid structure
Oht hat makes sense
But what about pz and dz2
if we switch up the places of px and pz
Like how are you arranging them what is the horizontal plane ?
It would not make any diff
why?
Because they are in the same plane which is xz so we are rotating the structure like a fidget spinner
Which would still be the same structure
what if I like literally switch up px and pz(idk if I can) and then make px and dx^2 - y^2 overlap along the x axis(the dx^2 - y^2 also has e density along hte x axis na?) idk if I can do that cuz its been merely 3 - 4 hrs since I was introduced to this concept
Can you draw it on a page and send it I am not able to interpret it
I didn't mean to write "overlap"
Wait I eat and get back to it
I mean to write intermix
what I mean is
1 - in the equatorial plane - py, pz and s intermix
2 - perpendicula to the equatorial plane - dx^2-y^2 and px intermix

Hey
Ur first case is possible because the px and py orbital are in the same plane which is xy and the dz² orbital is perpendicular to this plane so these two won't interfere
But dz2 orbital has a negative wave function on the xy plane
Yeah so the out of phase overlap will cancel out each other and we get a resultant structure
First case is similar to this
@Jeepaglu
Wapis aa
Baaki u know hybridisation is a mathematical concept toh Jo pz or dz² orbital overlap karte hai woh ek resultant structure milta hai
Oh
Haan abhi samjha
Tanks :)
👍
bhai
doubt to mera tha
😭
Yoo I just noticed
Abhi clear hai ya you wanna know something
?
our doubt
