Bazzite steam update loop

I keep getting into this update loop where bazzite opens in desktop and tries to update steam. I have run reset fix, updated, done all sorts of tricks but this keeps coming up. The update always ends in a desktop steam login screen. It's a real pain. Quite close to switching is because this is making it unusable. It's a shame because it got xg mobile to work with it on ally very well
