Are Runway Shows (Still) Relevant? - Topic of the day 7/25/25
Yes, I know, the cerulean speech but here and now in 2025 are runway shows relevant for you? If so, how - as inspiration, as a form of brand awareness, as a hobby, as a source for potential purchases, something else? If not, why not, and what alternatives are there?

I mean they are essentially trade shows
i find them personally relevant as all of the above - inspo, great way to see what designers behind brands are thinking, finding new brands, as art for enjoyments sake, source for purchases on the RTW shows (obviously I'm not buying couture)
and also getting a sense of trends
cause they are essentially a public showing of the trend forecasts
Fashion runway watch parties are a thing now it’s kinda goated
For me I like watching fashion shows for entertainment / art first and foremost. I think they are influential for me in the same way that observing a variety of visual forms/styles is bound to change your own vocabulary for expressing yourself, but there are a much smaller subset of brands I look to for direct inspiration/mimic
I think issey miyake shows are my favorite to watch and I hardly own anything from the brand, but it's amazing art and entertainment to me. During fashion weeks my partner and I will intentionally sit down and watch a few each night like we would a new show we are working through
I love this idea
Would be really fun to host something like this with friends too
From what I’ve heard a lot of people have their break from run way shows so it’ll be selfish to deny newcomers this opportunity to do that
