MFAD Recommends: Shorts - Topic of the day 7/30/25
Whether it's blistering summer where you are, or you're planning for the future, do you have a favorite pair of shorts? Let us know about them - the brand, the cost, how to buy, any pics, and what makes them so great (especially if they're meant for a specific purpose). Or if you had an awful pair of shorts, feel free to roast them here. 🫡 Looking for specific advice on what shorts to buy? Search in #questions-and-advice for ''shorts'' to see previous threads and make a new one if you haven't found an answer. 👍

Personally I think leg opening is important with shorts, which feels like an important consideration when making jorts.
I genuinely cannot recommend the engineered garment gurkha shorts enough
I think my fave pair of shorts are these PRL linen shorts. I think they might be womens? Anyway, I think they are pretty awesome.

wide openings are great on shorts
also light material is important to me
not just to beat the heat but also for that nice light swish
u need wide openings bc otherwise it's not shorts right
like, shorts with a 30" inseam are still shorts and u only know this bc the leg is cut like a long short and not regular pants
been needing a pair of their FA shorts for a few seasons now and every time @Mosh wears em i feel envy
most of my shorts rn ive gotten from cuttin up pants i dont like anymore and its been serving me well
I highly reccomend going two sizes down, im a XL in most pants and i got an L and i still need to belt those things….
But theyre great
yea, sounds right for EG
off topic but I love that mosh is a he/him sheepgirl. I don't understand it. I don't want it explained to me. It makes me smile.
CDG and Sacai bermuda shorts are great
I just love my monster girls man
Hell yeah, brother!

CDGH+, Homme Plisse, Setchu

Mostly i just really like my cutoffs. I have a corduroy pair and recently got some cutoff jorts
I have a pair of these! Really hard because there’s no elastic or belt loops
yikes
going to have to keep up leg day until my thighs can hold them up
Yeah I have a few pairs of PRL Tyler shorts for dressing up I love but otherwise just some chopped fatigues or cords is bang for ur back best option
On monday i ordered some ripton chore shorts and they arent here yet but i think they look cute and im excited to get them especially for hiking/biking/camping

I liked these for shorty shorts actually https://www.buckmason.com/products/rosin-newport-nylon-swim-short

Oh fun take on the double knee short
churro sorts 👀
I had a moment with both of these pairs of shorts where I thought they were absurdly large the first time I put them on
Now I feel like even bigger shorts would be good - and I'm looking at shorts that balloon more with pleating and structure
It's interesting to see how sort of divergent shorts are at the moment. I think the more cropped ones look good on folks too but want mega sized shorts for myself

Wow they look really good on yuou, ID?
Thanks!
Left is lemaire twisted shorts
Right is uniqlo u half pants
Both from this season!
Yea they look great
But I agree I need BIG SHORT

This summer I went in on DBF shorts. They're wide with elastic waist. Linen is excellent. They are $$$, but on sale were a good deal.

Tried on the LEJ Plage shorts in denim, their take on Jorts. I need a pair next summer.

been wanting to try those for a whillle
Prob these Prada shorts from SS19. They’re self belted and made from this cool material that feels sort of like a wetsuit. I’ve been on the lookout for these in black, so if you see them in 48 or 50, let me know.

call me a basic bastard but i still fw patagonia baggies
the leg opening is wide enough for me, there's decent pockets, and as the ad copy suggests they're do-anything shorts, be it swimming hiking or messing around day to day

I snagged my first pair of baggies a few weeks ago after i was realizing my hammie cords weren't helping me in the humidity and I don't think I've ever loved a short more
Baggies for thick thighs and also these incredible fatigue shorts from madewell have been game changers

I like baggies as well.
there's also something fun about cutoff chinos especially worn traditionally - maybe i just get a serotonin boost from the raw hem idk
imo the :uniqlo: cotton/linen shorts have the best quality-cost ratio. Beware they are VERY short

When it hits high 80s+ in NYC I have no choice but to wear shorts. I got a pair of gurkhas this year, and despite the belt being kind of a pain to get on and off and my ancestors side-eyeing me for wearing British colonial garb, they’ve been a blast to wear.
im not super into baggie shorts stylistically but they were absolutely amazing for travel
just made some shorts

I really like shorts that straddle masculine and feminine, like wrap shorts or ones with tons of structure like these ss Daley ones
