So confused on 18east listed measurements. Any advice?

Looking at their Jesper shirt, for example, they list the chest measurements for a large at 52 inches. To me (and according to google's dumb AI overview) that would be an XL or even a XXL. The site notes that "these run on the relaxed side of true to size. We recommend taking your normal alpha size here or sizing up for an oversized fit." My alpha size is usually M or L, depending on the brand. But it seems like if I did that I would be swimming in either a M or L here, and that actually I would need to get an XS (which seems insane!) Anyone out there own a Jesper (or another shirt from 18east) care to fill me in here? If it helps, I'm an M in the Wythe OCBD, but an L in Buck Mason's. Thanks!

Hi @dontbeweird2012! For better answers, include: - Reference pictures - Budget in numbers - Specific measurements - Openness to buying secondhand and/or online - Location: country/continent is fine - Timing/urgency

ignore all the words, alpha size true to size idk what that means either, though it can give a general vibe if it is oversized or not just look at measurements

Best thing to do would be to measure something you have already to compare

also alot of 18est things are intentionally fit oversized, which is not the same as just "big", so maybe the chest is 52 inches but the length is what you would expect to be fair though this brand has historically been notoriously weird w/ sizing

thanks all. i tend to be either bad at measuring (possible) or just dumb (highly likely) but sometimes even when i measure a shirt at home i get it wrong. E.g. i measured a shirt i liked and compared it to those listed on buck mason but still had to swap out for a different size (the sleeves were off or something, i forget). i think i'm going to go medium, which will probably be a little roomy on me, and hope for the best. but again if anyone out there has direct experience with the jesper or wolf shirts and can weigh in that would be extra helpful lol yeah "relaxed side of true to size" is very funny to me

haha unfortunately 18 east size charts are ass i think i got 3 things from them and multiple measurements were >1” off on each cool clothes though

ya u kinda just gotta send it and whatever happens happens. these shirts are supposed to fit big tho, and sizing down to get to a "normal" fit is defeating the purpose

what have you gotten from them? yeah not looking to do that exactly but also don't want it to look ridiculously poorly sized. like there's intentionally oversized and then there's badly sized ya know?

this is where understanding measurements becomes important ig. I usually wear a 48-50" chest, I recently picked up a shirt with a 64" chest because it is supposed to be oversized. At no point did I compare alpha sizing because it doesnt mean anything.

first thing I got from them was small and it was mid but fine, next thing I got was a medium, wish I got a large. Im pretty done with the brand but sometimes second hand goes for very cheap so I got something in large, then XL, now I want 2XL does it look "look ridiculously poorly sized" idk maybe but idc

i forget. it was 1-2 pairs of pants and 1-2 shirts and everything was fucked tho whether something looks ridiculous depends on whether you have the swag to wear it well honestly but also what carrion said im like a 42-43” chest but my shirts are anywhere from 46-52” shoulders that fit big can be pulled off more easily in less constructed garments vs like a suit jacket

they want their shit to fit big but made it confusing sizing down is generally always a mistake with 18 east

Alright, I see what you're saying now @ler. Ordered an M, and it does fit pretty well but feels ever so slightly tight in some areas (particularly the cuff openings, and sometimes around my lat area if i kinda stretch my arms out). Overall it fits me like a slightly loose OCBD. I could probably just work with it but still going to try an L and compare. Update for anyone searching in the future: the large fit much better. Probably best to heed the advice in this thread and not size down looking for the "correct" fit. The L definitely fits "oversized" but it doesn't look or feel goofy. Just a nice, relaxed, laid-back feel. I'm not even sure I believe the chest is 52 inches around but I haven't measured. The shoulder seams don't line up with my shoulders the way a dress shirt is supposed to but I don't care; it just looks cool. Anyway thanks for all the help here! Would recommend anyone also seeking advice to look to this thread. (just a note for this particular shirt -- i would advise washing or at least rinsing it by itself or with other dark clothing before wearing. it's "overdyed" and can bleed its color onto other clothing, white couches, etc)

Yeah, almost everything they make is going to have a drop shoulder. The way it's cut can skew the measurements a bit.
