Valorant stuttering/freezing issue
Valorant has a stuttering issue where every few seconds, the game freezes for a split second. When this happens, my screen freezes for what I estimate around 1/4 of a second. I have ruled out network errors because my friend says I'm still moving when it's freezing mid-movement on my end. I've also run Forza and Minecraft on my pc, both of which don't have freezing/stuttering issues even when the GPU usage is at or close to 100%.
PC Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro Ice
RAM: 64 GB of DDR5 6400mhz CL32 (downclocked to 6000mhz cl30)
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5090 Master Ice
PSU: NZXT C1200 Gold ATX 3.1 (1200w PSU, I am using the 12vhpwr that the PSU provided, no extensions)
OS: Windows 11 Home
Drivers tested: Game Ready drivers 577.00 and older
Plenty of case fans and an AIO for a CPU cooler
Fixes Tried:
1. Rolling back drivers from 577.00 to 576.88, then to 576.80, and finally to 576.02 using DDU in Safe Mode, none of which fixed it
2. Toggling between PCIe versions 5.0, 4.0, and 3.0
3. Disabling Xbox Game Bar and disabling Discord overlay
4. Toggling numerous Windows settings, including Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, Variable refresh rate, Optimizations for windowed games, and Game Mode.
5. A fresh Windows install
6. Clearing CMOS
7. Reseating the GPU
I've tried so many potential fixes (as listed above), none of which work. The most promising things so far are disabling hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (Windows setting) and unplugging my 2nd monitor. This maximizes the interval between freezes, although it still happens very frequently (every 5-10 seconds or so). This is very frustrating as sometimes my game freezes when I'm in a gunfight or someone peeks me, and I just get Thanos snapped into the spectate screen.
My biggest suspicion right now is just a 5090-Valorant compatibility issue, as when I was using my friend's 3050, there was no freezing. There's also no freezing in other games.

update: i see that someone else also posted about this

the freezing has been occuring before the ue5 update btw

i guess many people with better specs have this issue? but none of them are getting replies in their posts
Did you mess around with BIOS?
yes
but that was after the issue appeared
it appeared after i installed my new gpu and updated the drivers
in bios i didn't change anything that should be causing this, though
have you tried removing GPU drivers with DDU, then reinstalling the driver?
the game crashed for me
and stopped crashing
once i did that
yeah
thats how i always do it
clean uninstall with ddu in safe mode then clean reinstall manually
apparently nvidia has a new driver
im going to download it today
i have this issue aswell for a long time and the valorant support never helped me
i reported the issue to nvidia customer support, but they werent able to resolve it, so then they opened a formal ticket or sm to report it to nvidia
alr can u lmk if u find a solution to this issue
disable onboard lan controller in bios
aight i will
will try that by tonight, will update you on if it works or not
alright so i dont see why this will help, since it determines whether the ethernet port is enabled or not
wait i think it worked
holy shit it might've worked
@Marcus tan youre an angel dressed in a malaysian countryball pfp
@m7 try this shit
This is happening to me too bruh I can’t play
yo genuinely try diabling onboard lan controller
my val is genuinely fixed
30 mins without a single freeze
Dang need to try this
ill try
This thing worked like butter on croissant
if you dont mind, im curious. how did you come across this piece of knowledge, its so random 😭
thats what i was wondering, how did he find this?
i used to have this issue and there was another thread where someone fixed the problem
it was awhile ago though
his name is M. frost
it fixed the issue but does it mean i cant use ethernet anymore for my game to work
I use lan and not WiFi ? So how’ll I play without it lmao
gonna have to play without until someone fixes their shit :/
Do you get micro stuttering or freeze for couple of seconds and repeating ?
if your lan controller is giving you problems you'd have to update your bios- if it's already on latest let the board manufacturer know so they can push a fix
alright, thank you, i'll contact gigabyte asap
every 5 or so seconds, the game freezes for around 1/4 second
im pretty sure my bios is on the latest version, i last updated it a few days ago using gcc (gigabyte control center)
ive seen this recently
