Clothes for Commuting - Topic of the day 8/8/25
Whether going by bus, bike, foot, public transit or something else, your clothes are as affected by the daily commute as you are. How does your commute impact your clothes? Do you wear any specialized clothing for this purpose, and does it reflect your style? Are there any specific things to do to minimize your commute's impact on your clothes?

i specifically only wear my vans checkerboard slip-ons to and from work or when i’m doing errands outside around the apartment
that is all
I aura farm my commute by taking off my ocbd and walking home in a ribbed tank tucked into jeans with loafers
it doesnt affect me at all. my pants drag thru dirty subway water, one million people rub against whatever is on the upper half of my body, my shirt is drenched in sweat and a thousand other liquids.
And thats before you start going to work
MN Winter = out of place duck boots to trudge through the inches of slush.
im a cycling commuter in minneapolis so in the winter i can basically wear my whole fit if its not actively snowing but in the summer if im not already wearing like linen shorts or something im changing fits when i get to my location. for work i wear scrubs so i just wear athletic shorts and a light shirt in the summer or sweats in the winter and change when i get to work.
i would sometimes change into a shirt or more comfortable shoes after sweaty humid commutes tbh
Currently my commute is like an 8 minute walk to my house, but the important variable is that the HVAC at my job is intense so I always wear layers and in the summer bring a sweater with me
Commuting in a leather jacket and leather pants is great cause I am the most physically and spiritually hot person in the office
If I’m commuting all day, 5 inch inseams plus a preferably grey cotton t shirt and some mid top sneakers because I’d like the freedom of movement
I commute by streetcar that leaves right in front of my house and stops right in front of my university so I‘m pretty flexible with my clothes
I do however avoid wearing shorts that are too short bc I don‘t want my skin directly touching the seats
