error must load the kernal first. Looks like a common error

I did my own research first looking for the common work arounds. And for my issue its weird because its not booting into bazzite after disabling secure boot. I just get this. I need help please.

i386/efi ? Is this a surface or other device from late 2000s / early 2010s?

Kernel regression maybe? Does your friend use a rolling release distro?

That was actually CachyOS install USB Same thing also happened with GParted live install Fedora was fine though (he was trying to troubleshoot his broken windows install after an update)

Sounds like secure boot enabled

yeah the kernel is there but isn't signed so secure boot causes the load command to fail so grub just continues to the boot command which fails without a kernel loaded hence the error not sure why the devs don't make the load command print an error

Do it yourself :) Make a pull request They can't catch everything

oh i noticed at the top it says can\t allocate kernel i'm guessing grub uses the firmware's standrd load function to load the kernel the function does the check the check fails & so does the function grub doesn't really know why it failed jiust that it did weirdest thing i've seen was on mint somebody installed mint switched to a new GPU from NVIDIA to AMD i think they enabled secure boot & forgot so the NVIDIA kernel driver wouldn't load so they were left at a black screen post login with just a cursor were able to open a terminal & it was only then when we tried loading nvidia with modprobe that we figured out that the cause was secure boot
