Ya for gift shopping
/electronics
I can’t remember the last time I bought any clothes in a mall but I’ve bought other people clothes in a mall
no / there aren’t any near me / i know my measurements so i mostly shop online
no they are dead and for good reason
are there malls in LA
yeah for sure
huh
ive only been to a couple
LA is more of a high street culture?
westfield, because my wife was doing a work related thing there there
and the grove/farmers market which is an outdoor mall
which was pretty but the stores are basically exactly the same either way
LA has a lot of what you could call high streets
Oh and tk maxx is a fun browse on occasion
LA isnt really one city its like a city made up of smaller towns and cities
Australia is very opposite where most of our high streets are dead and the malls are where everything is centralised
the malls here seem to be virtually indentical with each other
basically no unique offering or character to them
Yeah that’s the same here but most of the fun stuff doesn’t have brick and mortar here anyway because of the rental situation
like why are there h&m and zara at the mall they're also everywhere else, snd then the luxury brands have their outposts where they sell the mass market slop
keychains, tees
You go to malls for surf shops and Birkenstocks and stuff
Hm and Uniqlo too yeah
i just dont really get why they still exist
i mean they kinda dont
A lot of our inner city ones have transitioned primarily to food hubs
Just massive food courts with a Kmart
yea i mean that makes sense at least
where else can you go share a table and eat from 5 different restaurants
theyre def dying
but theyve been busy on the times ive visited LA ones
sometimes i go to KOP to pick up an order LOL
i used to enjoy this, maybe its a problem with the us version because its alllllll garbage
like clearly made in a sweatshop specifically for tj maxx
in the uk one i used to go to, even in a small town, theyd have some decent quality stuff that filtered down from those brands
but here its all the fake licensed slop (i love overusing this word)
Slop is also my favourite word rn
i think malls are a good space for kids or just people in general to hang around in a safe-ish environment with things to do
the real reason to go to malls is to pick up a vibrator and a new lip piercing from spencers and also an 8th from the cashier even tho ur pretty sure he's overcharging for his shit but its whatever because ur only 15 and weed isnt legal for another 30 years anywah
i appreciate you and your complete lack of any filter whatsoever
im just speaking power to my truth
power to my teeth was better
u would say that u pervert
i was a big mall kid growing up
malls are kinda like peak suburbia for a bored teenager
we'd go just to walk around, hang out
for me it was about as close as we'd get for a third space that wasn't just outside in the neighborhood
and with how VA neighborhoods were built they were so like pedestrian unfriendly lol
i grew up next to a lot of pretty iconic DMV malls
tyson's corner and potomac mills specifically
i grew up with like 8 malls within 30 min, 4 of them within 5-10 min
seeing potomac mills post covid was really depressing, but on the other hand tyson's corner is constantly packed and full of people
covid and switching over to more boutique brands kinda killed the urge tho
im sure it's died down though
Hanging out in the mall with your buddies? Nah
Bank standing at GE? Yes
malls are huge in the suburbs
i like malls
not for shopping as much as just being around people and or eating food
i feel like malls could be good again
people yearn to hang out
theyre turning them less into retail spots and more into hangout spots
I last went to the mall to do a The Black Tux fitting for an upcoming wedding. That’s it
they need more like short term but unique smaller brands
rather than the big generic offerings
at least in cities with multiple malls plus high streets
eh, now that i live in a city i just think there should be more mixed use living
I like smelling the cinnabon
the non-mall near me has two separate auntie anne's and frankly that's the only reason to go nowadays
i do support it being a third place but given how i shop i'd rather just do this in town centers or shopping districts
As of last summer Tysons Corner was as packed as ever
Last time I went to the mall there was a Beyonce concert at the next door stadium, so everyone was wearing Canadian tuxedos and cowboy hats.
That mall (American Dream) has a lot of other facilities including an arcade and skiing slope so it's cool to just walk around. It also has fancier stores like Balenciaga.
tbh american dream is like barely a mall, that thing is a mess
somehow found its footing as an amusement park tho
Malls are one of the few places in the suburbs where you can have the feeling of a busy city street. Nice for getting a pretzel and just strolling around
Places in the Bay Area have figured out people like having nice food in the mall and that’s led to a sort of revival of some places
Yeah I spent last summer in Sydney (Parramatta) and the grocery stores were all in the mall. Had no idea and it totally tripped me out when I first saw people with shopping carts of food walking through the mall
yeah, i've seen them (woolworths/coles) in basically every mall i've been in in australia
Sometimes I go to a mall when I’m hankering for a New York slice (sbarros)
Jk I only to a mall once in a while if I have to kill time and I usually hate it
Lots in NJ but not my brands. I could probably find something decent at Nordstrom.
valleyfair be like
Malls are really good when your starting with clothes cos you can go try on loads of stuff to get a feel for sizing and different cuts and might be more viable than thrifting depending where you live. Just don't buy too much.
