DH doesn't appear to be doing anything or loading any LOD chunks in Ardacraft Modpack and Server
Installed the Ardacraft modpack through Modrinth, as per their instructions on their website. Distant Horizons, included in the modpack, doesn't appear to be doing anything. With shaders deactivated, it doesn't seem to be generating any LOD chunks or showing any, and the only visual distinction I can see when turning rendering on and off in the mod settings is that the farthest chunks I can see turn darker when the mod is rendering. (To be clear, it's not that additional chunks are being shown, but dark, but rather the same exact chunks are visible with and without the mod, but the farthest ones are darker when the mod is on.) With the included shaders on (bliss), I get the effect where the terrain smears across the sky, but I see that's a known issue, so for now I'm focusing on fixing DH not working with shaders off.
I can't see any similar issues being asked about here or generally online, and asking for support in the Ardacraft discord led me here.
Attached images show with and without mod rendering on.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting steps I might take to resolve this?
MC 1.20.1
DH 2.3.2-b-1.20.1
Fabric 1.20.1

Okay, I have managed to solve this after another reinstall, not sure what I did differently.

Okay I started working on the shader aspect, and saw that it might be an issue with iris and indium and sodium. I saw that I have a version of sodium that says it no longer requires indium, but when I deactivate indium, I get an error upon launch that says DH requires Indium to work with Sodium??
Prior to Sodium version 0.6, Sodium replaces the Fabric renderer with its own, so mods that uses Fabric Rendering API requires an intermediary mod like Indium to be able to render stuff in-game.
Sodium 0.6 onwards implements native support for Fabric Rendering API, so mods that uses it can now run on Sodium without the need of Indium. Sodium 0.6 is for Minecraft 1.21.1 onwards, likely up to the next major release.
So why would DH prevent the game from launching without Indium if I have the latest version of Sodium?
And might any of this be related to the two issues I'm having?
What Minecraft version are you on?
Minecraft version 1.20.1
Distant Horizons version 2.3.2-b-1.20.1
Fabric version 1.20.1
:hmmmm:
Distant Horizons for Minecraft 1.20.1, but Minecraft version is 1.21.8?
Is that what that second part of the version means?
I guess maybe the modpack itself is running MC 1.20.1? Now that I notice the Fabric version also matches that. I'm getting 1.21.8 from what my normal launcher has installed
Can I have two different versions of MC running on two different launchers?
Default and Modrinth?
Okay yeah just confirmed this is all on MC 1.20.1 not 1.21.8 sorry about that
Okay I've turned off all the mods, and turning them on 1 by 1 I've determined that Sodium, Iridium, Iris, and even the bliss shader itself are not the issue.
Going to cointinue turning them on 1 by 1 but there's like a 100 lol
If anyone has a guess for a likely candidate for an incompatibility issue let me know.
Seeing that you're running a modpack, what modpack you're using? Or is it a custom list that you put together? Either way, sending over game logs when Distant Horizons is enabled can help.
This is for the Ardacraft Modpack, exactly as it comes with no settings changed or mods added or removed (until I began troubleshooting)
Right, you mentioned the pack in your first message.
Hmm, it seems like Distant Horizons 2.3.2-b comes with the modpack, so it should be working as the packager tested it before submitting. Which release of Ardacraft you're using?
I just installed it today
I think version 13 is what Modrinth is saying?
:thonkwithshades:
Interesting.
Okay got all mods running without the issue in SP, then joined the server and realized the issue is only in the server and not in SP ðŸ«
So all my troubleshooting was in vain
I've been testing on SP assuming the issue would be the same in both
How is it possible that with the exact same mods running, I'm having the issue in MP but not SP?
I just realized, 2.3.2-b only has passive server support, unlike 2.3.4-b which does have active server support.
In short, the modpack is technically Working As Intendedâ„¢.
:harold:
On servers, Distant Horizons 2.3.2-b will start generating LODs for areas that you explore, so start exploring I suppose.
That's not the issue I'm having. Even walking around, when I go backwards the chunks unload and there's no LOD.
And if I activate the bliss shader I get the terrain streaking
So passive is not the issue.
Rendering disabled in Distant Horizons settings?
It's enabled. When I disable it nothing changes except the darkness on the farther chunks
As in my original images
Sorry not quite right, when the shader is on disabling rendering stops the streaking
Push comes to shove, I may need to test this modpack on my system. Sadly I'm away from my PC for the next 6 hours, so someone else has to help I suppose.
No problem, I'll keep troubleshooting for a while and let you know if I solve it. Otherwise if you get the chance I'd really appreciate it
