You can check this but I believe AMD does not support HDMI 2.1 only 2.0 in Linux due to licensing restrictions. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=441341#:~:text=SMG%20wrote:%20%E2%A4%B4Fri%20Jul,and%20a%20laptop%20with%20LM22.

I thought DP 1.4 doesnt support 1440p@360hz It works! I guess its using some kind of display compression to work DP1.4 has less brandwith than HDMI 2.1 so im surprised it worked Thanks for suggestion!

/chatGPT So I had it running uncompressed on win10 before. But with same cable doesnt work on bazzite.

DSC is the compression mechanism It's considered pretty lossless Oh yup rYcle got it

The HDMI forum banned amd from implementing HDMI 2.1 on Linux because screw you. Does your monitor/GPU support better than DP1.4? Because the 7900GRE should support DP 2.1 I believe?

U need special monitor for that. Its not standart. And didnt exist last year when I bought mine. Or if it did, it was much more expensive.

I assumed a 1440p360 monitor would be a special monitor lol Who sells a monitor with ports that don't support its Max performance
rYcle
rYcleOPβ€’4d ago
did u even read this? πŸ˜„ It worked prefect with hdmi 2.1 on win 10
AnEagle
AnEagleβ€’4d ago
Yeah, but if they put on a DP, it should also support the full speed Is what I'm saying Otherwise it's kind of false advertising

Hackiβ€’4d ago
yeah i dont think they would have included a displayport that cant do what the monitor is capable of
rYcle
rYcleOPβ€’4d ago
it works, just with DSC
AnEagle
AnEagleβ€’4d ago
I'm also saying that because your DP cable could also be the problem

im confused what you mean by "you need a special monitor for that"

win10: HDMI 2.1 and 1440p@360hz uncompressed Or DP 1.4 1440p@360hz DSC on bazzite: HDMI 2.1 only gets 1440p@120Hz Or DP 1.4 1440p@360hz DSC DP 1.4 =/= DP 2.0

AnEagleβ€’4d ago
That's really dumb Tough luck I guess
Hacki
Hackiβ€’4d ago
yeah the reason for hdmi2.1 not working is that amd is not allowed to support it on linux

During this 1 single day - no. But the difference is very subtle. Without proper testing, same hardware, same software, would be hard to tell.

that sounds like to me that it doesnt matter
mrvictorywin (Ping on reply)
dp 2.1 works on linux and your GPU supports it too
rYcle
rYcleOPβ€’4d ago
Basically, its always better to use: DP2.1 > HDMI 2.1 > DP 1.4

except you cannot see a difference so for you, there isnt a difference

editing /etc/passwd is a pretty good way to cause issues if your drive isnt encrypted, you could probably use an install environment with a text editor to fix that file again
rYcle
rYcleOPβ€’4d ago
yeah im smart, thankfully, and didnt encrypt i kinda expected somehting to get fkd it was just human error, i know u cant do that. as I said, I meant to delete the #, not the space. will bazzite flash drive work? i think if i log out, i wont be able to get in again xD
