part 2. of the installation instructions is not very clear to me
some parts of the instructions are not very indicative on how to be done
- Connect your bootable medium to your device and boot into it.
- After connecting the device, boot into the Bazzite installer.
i connected my USB drive with Bazzite flashed in it, and what do i use to boot it ? do i have to do it from the BIOS ? or is it in the file explorer ?

You need to go into the BIOS of your device then find you USB stick
ok
it should be indicated in the guide imo
On my MSI BIOS, do i click on M-Flash ? Or somewhere else ?
There should be boot options, but every bios looks different
Can you send a screenshot?

imma convert it to a .png
Go to advanced mode
and from there ?
I dunno what your bios looks like sorry
Look for the boot options
I'm gonna send images

I'll take a look once i'm at home shortly
ok, @ping me when responding
Iirc it was on settings-> something alongside of exiting
Near the save and exit part you can choose booting option. Speaking from memory cause mine looks similar
@DARKLOL680
ok thanks
Had a problem finding it too lol
Is it Boot Override ?
yes i think so
Ok i found it
I'm not gonna loose any data, right ?
are you dual booting with windows? i recommend separate drives for both OSes
Bazzite is on an external drive
And yes i'm gonna dual boot
I'm on the installer rn
just make sure to unselect the drive that has windows on it in the installer π
Ok
It's the main ssd drive that has Windows
10
So which drive do i choose to install it ? is it fine if i install it on the same USB drive that i flashed Bazzite on it ?
oh i thought you meant you were gonna install Bazzite on an external drive
I will
no you can't do that, if you don't have a second SSD drive then you'll have to make space on your primary SSD that has windows and install it alongside windows
So it's fine to install it along side Windows 10 ?
i think you need to make the Windows partition smaller from inside Windows first, at least that's what the official documentation says
Dual Boot Preliminary and Post-Installation Setup Guide - Bazzite D...
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
does the other drive has to be empty if i want to install Bazzite on it ?
it doesn't have to be empty, but it should be at least 64gb in size (i recommend 256 or 512) and you should probably back up any data you have on it
ok
it has 1 Terabyte
the problem is i don't know where to make a backup since i have no other drives big enough, there is 537 GB to backup
and my main drive doesn't have enough space
any advice ?
so I'm not 100% sure on how to proceed but you could boot back into Windows, make some free space for Bazzite (say 450G or so) then reboot into the installer and install it on the now empty partition
But i'm really not sure if you would choose advanced or manual partition⦠sorry :crying:
there is enough space for Bazzite, the problem is making a backup
for the second drive
my secondary drive has 537 GB used and my main drive only has 120 GB free (both have 1T capacity)
and i have no other drives big enough
i just don't want to run the risk of loosing any data
when resizing the Windows partition, how much space should i give to Bazzite ?
As much as you want. Up to you based on the size of the drive. Personally, Ill do a 50/50 split.
what's the minimum ?
50gb
but you need room for games.
Maybe try 75-100 for testing purposes
does this mean Bazzite will not share storage space with Windows ? i already have Windows 10 installed and i intend to dual boot
on the same drive
What do you mean by share storage space?
If you partition the drive, each operating system will have its own separate set of storage.
so Bazzite will just be empty
and i'll have to reinstall everything
So youd install bazzite on its own parition, but yes it would essentially be empty and youd need to install the various games and things you want on the bazzite side.
is it the same if i install Bazzite in a separate drive instead ?
Yes, the games wont be shared between windows and bazzite
if you install bazzite on a separate drive or a separate partition you will need to reinstall whatever games you want.
ok thanks
so how do i transfer everything from Windows 10 to Bazzite ?
you can mount the Windows partition in Bazzite and transfer files over
mount ?
"mounting" here means making files on the drive available form/as a folder in bazzite
to do that you just click the drive in the files app
ok
