Brand Spotlight: Rick Owens - Topic of the day 9/2/25
Likely you've know or heard of Rick Owens on MFAD or Reddit or wherever you consume fashion content (if not it's founded by this guy: :happyrick:). What do you think of the brand? If you're a fan, why? If not, why not? To what extent does Rick (the man) affect your view on Rick (the brand)? If you've never heard of it, what is your first impression?

I wasn’t a fan of rick until I experienced it and now it’s easily like best 3 brands tjat exist
Y’all need to listen to Rick Owens interviews. I could listen to this man for hours
Everyone who gets into fashion develops an appreciation for rick
His models look like sea creatures
we were all once sea creatures
In retrospect, my favorite male models are the opposite of me. I’ve made myself quite muscular and fit into a certain stereotype, but I imagine my male model as this translucent jellyfish of a man who is totally unfuckable—what does that mean? I haven’t figured it out.- Rick Owens https://032c.com/magazine/from-rags-to-rags-rick-owens
From Rags to Rags: RICK OWENS Inside Out | 032c
At Paris Fashion Week 2018, Rick Owens’s self-possessed muses and flaming pyre created a dark counterforce on a day of reactionary triumph in Washington DC. Originally published in 032c Issue 19, Carson Chan interviews RICK OWENS at his home, studio and gym – and discovers how the American in Paris has managed to create a “total aesthetic.”
Rick Owens
the only designer whose clothes have made me feel something
so far
and one of the few creatives sat independently upon their throne and is also likeable
oh no
I learned about him from mfad, and the term "full rick".
I think he is one of the few designers where his clothing has influenced multiple subcultures in a relatively short period of time. When I got into fashion when I was young, Rick Owens was the most iconic, but also part of a larger group of Avant Garde designers who I felt all had a similar status within that genre of clothing. Over the years however, not all of those brands managed to last, some left and others would face a slow decline in popularity. Rick Owens however, only grew more popular as the years went on. While a lot of people wear Rick in the same way, I do think that there is a Rick piece for everyone.
I think the first piece I touched was when I was like 16, visiting the Pigalle store who still sold his own designer wardrobe among his own designs at that time. He had a cdg shirt sample I ended up buying and a Rick Owens asymmetrical T-shirt, which was, together with the footwear, the most popular item you would see everywhere online
this one was def for henge
i think one of those designers when you start being interested in fashion you 'don't get' and then gradually makes a lot more sense with time.
i don't really own any rick but it's something i'd like to add to my wardrobe. a lot of the more form fitting stuff i can't really see myself in, but definitely larger, more geometric outerwear i think is interesting to me.
Rick da goat
his (and very much Michèle's) contribution to fashion, counterculture, queerness, and aesthetic philosophy is legendary to any fashion nerd. Whether he's for you or not chances are at this point uk his house's work for something
I wish I had more money for Rick Owens 💔
And where I live it's hard to really delve into the work in real life. Every time I see an older piece in Toronto I cherish it for a sec knowing it can't be mine. I just have to appreciate it. I would cry to see that exhibit in Paris. I'm so in love with his industrial and romantic conceptual work. I wish witnessing the art was more accessible
just search for deals it's not unobtanium
its not going to be the cheapest thing but
I rlly don't have the budget for designer clothes above $300 I can't justify it atm. I'm a smart shopper and invest in what is pragmatic to my everyday life. I'm super selective and also cause of my taste and body type pretty limited in my selection
well i got both of my rick items for under 150 so
They're probably not the Rick items I want but that's great
Have been trying to find a pair of geth black jeans around 2-300, but not much luck
Is Grailed the best source?
Grailed is not a good source. It’s all overpriced, set up search filters or buy from people in the community
best prices are in rocpot
but yea at your age without nepotism i recommend waiting
i bot all my rick for more than 300
it rules
