Hi @zakario2000! For better answers, include: - Reference pictures - Budget in numbers - Specific measurements - Openness to buying secondhand and/or online - Location: country/continent is fine - Timing/urgency

i was gonna buy a 1:1 rep for this amount
deltic
deltic2mo ago
Yeah, there’s no need to buy a rep of a jacket when you’re willing to spend a good chunk like that - there’s also nothing particularly special about canada goose jackets

go to your local outdoor sports and recreation clothing place find out what the best one they have js then get it on ebay

carrion2mo ago
the thing is the rep isnt going to have the same sort of treatment or lining, or functionality of the og. Thats kinda the whole point of a warm coat, yk? You'll be freezing ur ass off in some shit that looks like dollar store canada goose. Alpha Indsutries does super cold weather parkas extremely well. Carhartt WIP has a couple solid options rn. The North Face is always the goat. Patagonia is also great.

secondhand military shit is a staple in any punk wardrobe, youd be totally fine going for grungy emo vibes in the one digs posted, or in any of the black colorways from alpha industries. on the flip side, canada goose has a reputation for being decidedly not grungy/punk/emo at all.

zakario2000OP2mo ago
reps r never good or sometimes r?
carrion
carrion2mo ago
for something like cold weather gear its never worth the gamble. Most of the time for other items it isnt worth it, because you have no guarantee that what you're buying is going to be well made, last any amount of time, or if you're buying online you cant even be sure the picture will match the item you get.
I'm Lagging
I'm Lagging2mo ago
they will almost never be as good as the real thing bc a) the company would sue them into oblivion b) there's no regulations bc they're not officially following guidelines and have no obligation to do so people with a trained eye will be able to tell so if impressing ppl is the point then idk about that either
zakario2000
zakario2000OP2mo ago
ye but for shit like beanie, hat, trousers?
henge
henge2mo ago
think of it this way- a house is intended to be lived in, it has walls, a water proof roof, insulation, electrical wiring and plumbing etc. a 'rep house' would just be a 2d picture that is convincing from a distance but would not likely have any of the features you buy a house for, only the look of a house from a distance its the same with rep technical clothing
I'm Lagging
I'm Lagging2mo ago
again lack of regulation means there's nothing stopping them from skimping and using like polyester straight from the gasoline waste vat
awz5082
awz50822mo ago
This is fine, Alpha Industries is a step up and can be found pretty cheap. This style is the N3-B parka they're very warm
I'm Lagging
I'm Lagging2mo ago
their main goal is to make something that looks close enough from the outside i would not be comfortable putting that on my scalp
awz5082
awz50822mo ago
almost all of the reps cheap out on the insulation, so you probably wouldn't be running that warm in them
zakario2000
zakario2000OP2mo ago
but most of the time the cost for a luxury thing is just for the brand
henge
henge2mo ago
wrong

if you want CG level quality without the price markup there are a bunch of competitors, I was joking about it but Triple Fat Goose, Moose Knuckles, Woolrich, Mackage, and others operate in that segment of fashion parkas. They're still not cheap (though plentiful secondhand, esp woolrich), but the quality is good

@zakario2000 anything that makes reps wont be above ground so i'd be wary of it being not regulated
carrion
carrion2mo ago
even with canada goose you're paying for solid construction & materials, and if you're buying new you get a lifetime warranty to cover repairs. Reps won't get you any of that.

part of what makes canada goose more expensive than other brands is that they use more difficult to source materials than most (this being the part that animal rights activists have problems with)

You can definitely find one in your budget, like $100-200 + shipping, not sure what selection is going to be like in EU, likely fewer US milsurp options There might be other EU milsurp of similar warmth that'd be easier to find but I really don't know my milsurp well @Digs might be able to assist??
