how do i install VS code if the system is read only?

when trying to install vs code, i get an error stating that the transaction lock can't be created on /usr/share/rpm/.rpm.lock (Read-only file system)
how can i temporary disable the read only to let this install work?

You don't, Bazzite is an atomic distro, which means that the system files are read-only by design and you're supposed to install isolated applications on top of it, usually in flatpak.
So there's no dnf package manager like in normal fedora, you have to instead install flatpaks, or if you want to add something to the read only file system, you do it with the rpm-ostree command, but it's only reccomended for system related apps.

Read some documentation on Fedora Silverblue / atomic desktops, they're kinda weird at first but very stable and great overall.

you can also install applications inside of a distrobox using the distroshelf application. But Flatpaks are the preferred way just like Leo said, more information here https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/. Btw you can find VS Code on Bazaar :bazaar: .

ah, i see, main reason i am asking is that vs code keeps bugging me about an update from the bazaar version
