Is Jira and Atlassian still terrible in 2025?
I hear so many complaints about Jira and Atlassian but I have not experienced any real problems myself. I am wondering if the bad reputation is largely driven by older versions of Jira and on-prem deployments versus the cloud.
I am especially curious because I moved our small org move to Atlassian primarily for their service desk, but also because they offer a huge suite of products like Jira and Confluence that all tie together very well.

Most of the problems I have had with Atlassian products are with the implementations. Trying to do to much custom for projects instead of standardizing.
Performance wise I haven’t noticed anything particular at least compared to the other tools I use daily.
I agree with agb95. If you're sticking with the standard implementations Atlassian provides, it's okay. Still a bit cumbersome, but okay. Trying to do anything custom is a painful process.
I managed projects at a previous job using Jira and Confluence. I thought it would be a good idea to add custom fields and custom ticket types; It hurts. That said, towards the end of my position, Atlassian did start adding some nice new features and improving the user interface. I honestly think this happened because of some new competitors in the market.
I agree with the above. JIRA is a big complex tool with lots of sharp edges but…. If properly configured (hard to do) will work and will integrate with almost everything. If it wasn’t then it wouldn’t have the market share that it does.
I however avoid it for small teams when I can because it is cumbersome to setup.
