Potentially interested in swapping from a realm to a server. Any advice?

Hi, A little background: I play on a survival Java realm with about 5 or 6 friends from work. My machine is a docked Steam Deck. The realm owner doesn't feel like maintaining their subscription so I agreed to take over and host the world on my own realm. Problem is, I have been having issues trying to upload the world file to my realm. This is not the issue I am here to seek help for, I'm sure I can ask Microsoft or Mojang support for help with that. If I'm not able to solve this issue, I would like to be informed on what some good options are for hosting the world on a server. Unfortunately, I'm a complete novice when it comes to networks and servers and pretty much anything to do with computers that's more complicated than browsing windows explorer to find a file. A little bit about our playstyle: with the exception of myself, we are all casuals who have built a couple houses and a few animal pens and not much else. I'm more of a wannabe TMC player who enjoys building various farms and machines for gathering resources. If I end up needing to host a server, I would want something robust enough that I can run my farms (not simultaneously, of course) without lagging the world for everyone else. So the questions I have are as follows: 1. What server hosting providers would you guys recommend? Is there a general consensus on best/worst providers? I don't mind paying a little extra for reliability, ease of use (and setup) and peace of mind 2. What are the relevant performance specs I need to be aware of? 3. I've seen terms thrown around in this server such as "panel" and "VPS" when (presumably) referring to different types of servers. Are these terms that apply to my situation? What do they mean? 4. Mods/plugins/datapacks: I'm not really interested in adding any new functionality to the game because I really enjoy the vanilla experience. The few things I would be interested in having is carpet mod and the server-side versions of some of the technical client mods I use (litematica, tweakeroo, minihud). Outside of those, are there any recommendations you guys have? I understand I need to use fabricmc and avoid papermc. (EDIT) 5. Are there any questions that I should have asked here but didn't? What else do I need to know? Thank you for any assistance you guys are able to give me.

as a begineer into hosting providers you should get a game hosting service instead of a vps, unless you want to learn it

What kind of server performance specs would be adequate for my situation?
Programmer / Nerd / Human
Depends on your farms really

if it's just a few people, you shouldn't need anything crazy. something around $10-15/mo should be plenty. i personally prefer winternode

Make sure it’s a Ryzen 9, even a few cores will suffice but Minecraft is very single threaded, just go for a panel for ease of use, VPS will require you to learn Linux and usually are more expensive for worse specs. Bloom is usually regarded as the best service/ease of use panel although may be a little more expensive then counterparts, try avoiding all of those forum posts that advertise “$0.75/gb” or very generic hosts as they are usually what we call summer hosts and will give you more headaches then just paying a little extra Also if you like farms consider hosting fabric or vanilla as spigot/paper usually break redstone or other game mechanics that farms use

Thank you for your help. I rented a bloom server and I still have no idea what I am doing. The guide says to upload the world file via SFTP. Because I'm using a steam deck I don't think I can use the recommended windows SFTP client so I went with FileZilla. However, when I connect to my server with FileZilla it won't show me the local files where the world .zip is. Any ideas?

I dont have anything but a steam deck or a PS5 so no. I appreciate your help, but that's kind of a dickhead thing to say.

well a steam deck is a console it will be very limited unless you root it i think tryting from your phone or asking a friend is the easiest course of action

Depends on the task If it’s not very simple I’d honestly rather buy a whole ass laptop/pc then try to fix it using termius

I have an android I reached out to mojang and they said the issue I am having with the realm has been fixed in a future release. I think I'm just going to cancel the bloom server and play the world in single player till the fix comes out. I'm the only one who logs in on a regular basis anyways. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm just not tech savvy enough for this shit, especially when I don't have a windows machine.
