How do I create an EFI log for a kernel panic?

I suspect that my ASUS laptop is having a kernel panic when I sometimes close and open the shell. The screen is completely frozen and the system is unresponsive, and the light on the Caps Lock flashes continuously until I hold down the power button to turn off the laptop manually. I read that you can either connect the computer to another through an ethernet cable, or edit the kernel parameters so that it outputs a log to a readable document. How can I do this?
