LOD not showing on server (works fine in singleplayer)

Hi, I’m running 1.21.1 (NeoForge) with the Better Minecraft BMC5 pack. I’ve got DH installed on both client and server (also using C2ME and Chunky). After I used Chunky to pre-generate chunks, I can’t see any LODs on the server. But in singleplayer it works fine and I can see LODs. I checked the FAQ and might’ve missed something, but I didn’t find a similar case. I also tried the server-side methods shown in some YouTube guides (I made sure enableDistantGeneration = true), but no luck. If it helps, I can share extra info like my DH server config file (if uploads are allowed). What should I do to actually see the view distance I’m supposed to?

Using Chunky to pregenerate for DH is not recommended for several reasons. The first one is the swiss cheese that might show up when using chunky while DH is installed. The second reason is that it's pointless, as DH has a build in pregenerator that is better integrated than chunky: - It saves space by only storing LODs, not normal chunks - It is faster to use DH's pregenerator to generate the LODs than first using chunky to generate the normal chunks, and then using DH to convert the normal chunks to LODs - It is part of DH, and therefore always/only called when DH needs it - Chunky calculates it's radius in blocks, confusing the user if they are not aware of this Distant Horizons' built-in LOD pregenerator is enabled by default, and can be sped up or slowed down by changing the Cpu Load in DH's settings, or disabled by turning off Distant Generation. If you want to pregenerate both LODs and normal chunks, set the Distance Generator Mode to Full under Advanced, World Generator. This will of course take up quite a lot more storage space. Make sure you have C2ME installed if you want to use Full, as the generation speed will be crap if you don't. Note, this also applied to other similar pregeneration mods.

- FEATURES: Complete generation of all LODs with mostly correct structures and trees. Does not save vanilla chunks, and is much faster than FULL unless C2ME is installed. - FULL: Generates and saves both DH LODs and vanilla chunks, has 100% correct LODs, because it also saves vanilla chunks it takes the most amount of drive space. Generation speed will suck unless C2ME is installed. - PRE-EXISTING: Generates LODs for all existing vanilla chunks.

It says that server has full DH support So assuming the client and server have both distant generation enabled and the client DH RD is not yet filled, it should fill up if given enough time

I executed the following commands: /chunky center /chunky radius 5000 5000 /chunky shape circle /chunky start After about 1.5 hours, the process was completed, but there was no change in the view distance, just like in the screenshot I shared in my original question. Am I doing this correctly? Or maybe I'm using DH incorrectly and there’s actually a better way to do this. Sorry, I’m trying my best, but I’m really a bit confused.

Chunky does not generate DH LODS, what more it breaks the generation of them and makes everything slower and harder You should use the DH built-in pregenerator instead

I have already finished generating the LODs, but I still can’t see them. Are there any other settings I could try?

it takes some time for the server to transfer them to you
Gimli
GimliOP5w ago
So do I need to transfer again every time I log into the server?
Skillnoob_
Skillnoob_5w ago
no? the server sends them to you slowly they get saved in your local database so the client can load them quickly

may i ask how long should it would take? because i could't see the transfer log. I’m afraid it’s not running properly.

can you lower your gui scale

When I set it to x1, it becomes too small and is completely invisible, but at x3 it goes beyond the screen.

is the done:204 ? Do I need to wait for everything to finish loading before I can see the LODs?Or if I can’t see them now, it’s already not working properly.

Try removing any mod except DH

I’m making a version with only DH, but I still want to try using DH in Better Minecraft. I’ll try it tomorrow. Since it’s already 2:35 AM in Japan, I need to be at work by 8:30 AM. Thank you so much ;D Interestingly, when I use it with Chunky in single-player mode, it works fine.btw

why use chunky when you can use DHs own generator which is faster
Gimli
GimliOP4w ago
Because I’m a dummy, I just followed what someone on YouTube did hahaha. Tomorrow I’ll try a pure DH version in single-player to see if it works. Using DH alone works fine, so I think something in BMC5 must be conflicting with DH.:catsad:

Try a binary search and figure out which mod is causing it. So disable half of the mods, see if issue is still there, if yes disable half again etc etc until you find the mod that's causing the issue.
