MCU SHUTDOWN: stepper too far in past. only on pause resumes
I just finished building a rat v4 500 hybrid.
Everything seems to be functioning but anytime the printer pauses, when I resume the print it IMMEDIATELY throws MCU shut down error.
I am unsure what to change or where to start.
I did change the usb c cable to the octopus v1.1 board and still getting the error
Uploaded the kipper log.
Where do I go from here?

upload your debug.zip, and a screenshot of the error if you could
Rodger

Unsure how to get debug googling now. Looks like I need to SSH in to get that?
no, its accessed from the configurator menu
I’m being upfront and very grateful for the help: I am able to trouble shoot for 2 more hours but will be out of my office until Wednesday 10/1. 9am est.
This is one of 2x printers I got for my employer
Understood. I'll see what I can do. Haven't seen that particular error before so this'll be a fun puzzle
Do you have anything else installed, webcams or monitoring software?
Is it happening with both printers?
I don't see anything weird in klippy.log, no stealthchop, no sensorless homing, really not sure.
Have you updated ratos?
Yea I actually tried starting fresh once already and updated everything.
I tried deleting my entire printer cfg and using my personal rat rigs cfg for the work rat rig and no luck either
I’ll give this whole punch list a try Wednesday
No extras, just have advanced motion settings turned on . It’s a stock pi 4 with no camera on the octopus v1.1.
Everything runs fine even prints well. Only gives me this error on pauses after I hit resume.
In thinking it was a speed issue I tried setting speed to 50% when hitting resume and it still through the error too. Update manager currently says all up to date It’s only happening on this one printer.
2 other printers I have (home printer and the second work printer with idex are functional)

what is "advanced motion settings"?'
Probably calling it the wrong thing.
After you do the configuration wizard there is an option for stealth chop, performance or advance motor motion, or silent.
Hm. I'd choose performance, hadn't heard of those last two. That's almost certainly the issue as those would have to do with how many IO operations the mcu is trying to perform.
At least easy to try and verify
I believe it applies more motor current and applies tuning

This. I selected performance mode which is what I have on my other two rat rig v4s
and the fan is pointed at the octopus, and is working right?
Yes sir.
I’ve gotten a good couple of prints off it, just not if it pauses or I pause it.
Like 10-12 benches and a few voron calibration cubes
your pause macro is no different from others i've seen, so weird
Once I hit resume is when tries to move and then immediately dies
Right, like it's trying to do ALL the moves at once and can't keep up
It'd be a real pain in the butt but you could try swapping the octopus between two machines and see if the issue moves or stays
The only mention I was able to find of someone having this error specifically with resuming after a pause, had no responses
I’ll give it a go Wednesday am. Not to big of a push. Should take 20 min.
If it’s the board I’ll hit up rat rigs for a replacement.
Bon chance!
Added a new octopus board and same result

I guess I’ll do the rebuild from the rat os again…?
Prints super well provided it doesn’t pause

Anything custom about your pause macro?
Is there one in the slicer?
I’ll double check the slicer.
Nothing custom in pause it’s all stock rat os Mm actually maybe, I never did change settings in orca slicer. Wonder if the default rat rig is bad settings

Iirc the only thing that should be in the slicer pause macro is calling the ratos pause macro
I’ll try porting my personal home slicer code over to it and see how it goes.
Does this happen at programmed pauses only, or if you manually got the pause button in mainsail does it also happen?
Does it when I hit resume not pause
Confirmed it is bad with a known good slicer profile and known good slicer rat rig config for my home printer
