System hangs while playing games.
Recently moved to bazzite. Little experience with Linux in general. Treat me as a newbie.
Sometimes while playing games (modded minecraft, World of warcraft, steam games like project zomboid) the system hangs for a couple minutes. Audio keeps repeating on loop the last 0.5-1s that was playing when this happened, nothing can be done, mouse won't even move. Usually system recovers after few minutes and goes back to working normally as if nothing happened but sometimes a hard reset is necessary.
I usually have YouTube playing on one screen (brave browser), Discord open on another and a game on the primary.
I noticed that this issue seems to hit harder with more demanding games such as modded minecraft.
System specs:
Ryzen 9 5900X
RTX 3070 ti
16gb Ram

Are you on an nvidia version of bazzite? If not look up how to rebase to one with the nvidia propietary drivers
yes, i went with nvidia

I recommend you rebase to the one with the proprietary drivers the bazzite-nvidia:stable one since the open drivers are for nvidia are basically more for legacy gpus
nvidia-open should be correct for 3070 ti
it works for everything 16xx and newer
nvidia non-open is for legacy generations before that such as 10xx and 9xx
Solution
it's possible that you're running out with 16gb of RAM
linux doesn't handle that very well and tends to crash/freeze when RAM is exhausted(unlike windows which just slows to a crawl)
try monitoring your ram usage while gaming
will do some stress testing then
try to recreate it while watching ram
i recreated this, the moment my used memory matched total the pc hanged, its time to download more ram π thank You for help
