How badly/well does this suit fit?

Hi! First post here. Some background: 5'5", 57kg 18m based in UK I've got a university formal event in 2 and a half weeks, with a black suit as part of the attire. I want to know what tailoring needs to be done here. From my research, I think the trousers obviously need to be hemmed (they didn't have the short size in stock) and the shirt sleeve needs to be shortened. I also think the fit of the suit around my waist is slightly wide, I have a slight v-taper so wouldn't it look better taken in a few inches? I'm unsure if the suit sleeves are okay length, I'm thinking the sleeves are a tad wide because of the creases in the back photo. Ideally I don't spend over £100 on tailoring, thanks for any input.

Hi @insecure tiger! For better answers, include: - Reference pictures - Budget in numbers - Specific measurements - Openness to buying secondhand and/or online - Location: country/continent is fine - Timing/urgency

I'm also just thinking it might not be worth to tailor the suit since I am wearing this gown over it https://oxford.edeandravenscroft.com/products/commoners-gown?variant=52589027033420

I wouldn't bother, you're wearing a gown over it - a black suit isn't useful enough long term outside of oxford balls to prioritise tailoring over dry cleaning all the booze etc of it after the ball ready for the next one. Maybe shorten the trousers, and take a new pic with the shirt ironed - but this is probably good enough.

Get the trousers shortened, lose the belt and get a good shine on your shoes.

Yeah Id shorten the trousers and leave everything else alone. Its also highly likely you'll put on weight as well over the first year, so not worth getting it taken in at waist etc Youll need to wear it for prelims from memory, and no point having a tight suit distracting you

Thanks all for the advice! I just thought I would consider tailoring it since it's something I would wear to a big ish event in my life lol I'll need it for the end of year exams for y2/3 too I think. I haven't put on weight in about 4/5 years from memory but that may change

Yeah, also true. Its very common to put on weight first year, due to combo of 1.booze 2.not eating properly/eating loads of chips after a night out etc 3. stress. You may be lucky, just a think to factor in. Particularly given black suit, so not likely to be worn a lot post uni
