Help me understand proportions
I’m here from Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/s/N0MjcQDBgI). Based on responses I need to look into cropped/short cut shirts, but I also may not have as much of a problem as I thought?
I’ve always been afraid to tuck in my shirts because of my long legs and short torso. I understand this is a good thing and many people have the opposite problem, but I never really felt comfortable with the tuck because I thought it actually made my legs too long and threw me off balance. The commenter that referred me here actually said I could go high waisted and look ok, which has never crosses my mind.
I think I am my own worst critic and misunderstand my proportions. Where should I be aiming to have my waistline with a tuck? Where do I want a shirt to hit untucked? How can I actually dress for my build?

Hi @Hampic! For better answers, include:
- Reference pictures
- Budget in numbers
- Specific measurements
- Openness to buying secondhand and/or online
- Location: country/continent is fine
- Timing/urgency
Heya, just FYI we are actually generally unaffiliated with the subreddit at this point, we are linked to by them but that's the extent of it.
Also any of these responses telling you you need any kind of crop or rise are misleading you. there is no "correct" measurements for these for any given body height or shape or leg length or literally anything. it's all personal preference and styling choices.
I think the tuck in the pic you posted looks good! nothing wrong with the proportions there at all.
Respectfully ur overthinking this, and so are basically all of the comments u got in that thread. A shirt should land where you think it looks good, there really isn't a rule for every single fit.
I'd suggest taking a look at #waywt #waywt-highlights #👕🗡-vote-in-1 and #inspiration to see the variety of ways people with all sorts of bodies are dressing and where their shirts end.
looks fine, also worth considering that an outfits proportions will always look off when you're stood there in your socks
Needs shoes more than anything else.
I personally like to have a bit of billowing when I tuck any shirt but this looks fine as-is
Y’all got me doing exposure therapy with tucked shirts now 😭 but I appreciate the advice, less science more art
You’re on the path
a huge part of dressing better is literally practice. Play dress up and look in the mirror
We wear clothes to change our body shape so don’t worry too much about where something should fit like look at these barrel jeans no one legs are that round lol
