New to Linux and completely thrown by what's going on.
I have a steam deck and recently installed heroic to play some GoG games 2 in particular shadows of mordor and shadows of war
I have ran into issues with both games.
Shadows of Mordor -didn't open at all. I search online and tried numerous fixes non worked.
Shadows of War- it almost opened, it brought up an error says 'Installed video device does not support DirectX 11 features. I have created a cfg in the pfx folder, tried telling the game to run in dx10
Sorry to bother you for what is probably an easy fix, I just don't know how to get it to work.

Wine-GE is rather old now (last release is almost a year ago) and thus might not work correctly. Please follow these instructions on using GE-Proton:
1. Head to the Wine Manager in Heroic, click the "Proton-GE" tab, and install "Proton-GE-Latest"
2. Head to the settings for your game(s) (icon on game card in library). In the "Wine Version" dropdown, select "Proton - Proton-GE-latest"
3. Rename your Wineprefix (path is shown in game settings), e.g. from
current-name to current-name_bak. To clarify: Rename the actual folder on your hard drive, do not change the option in the game settings.
Note: This will make game-specific configuration data (e.g. in-game settings or save files) unavailable. If this is an issue, let us know & we'll help you restore them.metropolitan-bronze•2mo ago

I had the same issue with proton, i recently changed it, but I will do it again soon all bases are covered.

Change to Proton GE and do this on terminal:
flatpak update
Also remove that -dx10 launch arg

Do I change the wine prefixes in the prefixes folder in heroic or in shadow of war folder in heroic?
Couldn't find it anyway lol.

It is for folks that gamed with Wine GE and now moves to Proton GE.
In order for their previous saves to work.
As proton has bit different user folder.

flatpak update ?
If not, do this in terminal.

Ah I didn't restart heroic.
I did the flatpak update
It opened started to play - brought it up in the task bar - then closed.

I think that game simply regressed
So just head to Wine manager in Heroic
In Proton GE section, download a proton ge build with 9 as base and try with

And select that for that game
Rest should still use proton ge latest
You can have multiple proton builds on your system
They wont interfere

I'm running into the same issue with Shadow of War. I click Play and is says "Playing" then stops immediately. Ran

I had installed SoW on a mounted SDD and not my root drive. Uninstalled and reinstalled on my root drive. This fixed the issue of not being able to install vcrun2022 which fixed the issue of the game not launching
