Free desktop update
I had updates in steam os as well as discover flatpak apps.
Some of the free desktop packages aren't updating because of heroic. I'm not sure why or what the fix is.

Updating. My bad

what isnt updating

In steam os you have flatpak packages. One of them is freedesktop. I don't have the specific package name on me. I'll try and get it soon. But heroic is using a package from version 23 dot something and it won't remove the old version since heroic is using it. I'm not sure I made that make sense.

freedesktop is a group of packages.. what isnt updating
like what is the error

Heroic uses Freedesktop 23.04(8? I can't remember). Since Freedesktop has it's own package of sorts for Flatpaks to use, heroic uses the flatpak version of 23.04/8. But, recently 23.04/8 got marked as EoL.
This is being fixed sometimes soon AFAIK, but it doesn't really cause any user facing or dev facing issues outside of the
flatpak update command yelling at you that it's been marked EoLother-emerald•2mo ago
... like i was saying freedesktop is an org that provides a lot of packages... "freedesktop version" does not make sense. https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/
so it would really help to see, what the error is, and what package we're actually talking about.

I think the package operates the same as how when you download a GNOME or KDE app for the first time on flatpak, you also download some sort of GNOME and/or KDE package
Like a meta package of sorts
Another issue was filed in this forum a couple days ago about the same issue if I remember correctly

without any information about the error or whats going on, stabbing in the dark doesnt really do much.. so to OP please post your error

I mean, unless this is some edge case, it's not really stabbing in the dark. The Freedesktop SDK 23.04 Flatpak package has been marked EoL. Heroic is still marked as relying on it in its metadata on Flathub, so Flatpak won't remove it because it sees OP has an app installed that is marked as dependent on it.
This likely happens a lot when a Freedesktop version is marked on Flathub as EoL
The apps eventually update after the devs hear about it, the app no longer depends on it, Flatpak does a bit of spring cleaning

my point is it sounds like that's the case but until we see the error who knows.

Yeah, touché
other-emerald•2mo ago
and it could be entirely some other issue
fascinating-indigoOP•2mo ago
I'll try and find it. I'll repost as soon as I wrap up this thing I'm doing. Thank you!
I couldn't find the logs for the discover app and tried to see if I could capture them my updating flatpak in the terminal. It actually updated fine via the command line so I don't have the issue any more, lol. Thanks for diving into this.

yeah eventually everything will be updated, but just doing flatpak update should resolve most stuff

That's wild. I would think they would have the same outcome, but I'm glad it updated.
