Portfolio hero section

Hey guys, I'm redesigning my portfolio. Now that I have some YOE under my belt, I kind of wanted to go for a more 'higher end' feel without being too over the top. It's not like I'm some $1m+ web dev agency lol. I really love the idea of adding motion inside these hero sections. I was thinking some type of b roll videos I can put in a ~10 second loop. I was thinking I could get some footage of myself coding or in a meeting etc., just showcase I'm a real human being. But I don't really have great lighting for this and I don't think it would look that great doing it myself. Instead, I was thinking I could just take some of the hero video footage some of my clients have for their heroes and put it in a small compilation? What do you think / do you guys have any other ideas?

I would be careful with this as they probably have the IP rights to the videos in question. Unless your contract says you can use it in your own works (some put in a "I can use stuff I make for you for advertising my services" clause) and, of course, you helped make the videos.

If this is for your professional site to get professional clients then you should hire a videographer for an afternoon to get the shots with the right angle, lighting, etc. People hire you b/c you're the professional web dev, right? So if you want good video hire a professional.

I was thinking about this but I think I'm cool enough with my clients where this wouldn't be an issue That's true I have some friends that are editors too I could reach out to and see if it's a stupid idea or not Yes! Exactly this

If you do that keep a few things in mind: 1. Some browsers or plugins block autoplaying videos. Valve's site breaks on my end because of that and there's no way to get it to play 2. Keep the video calm and avoid too much energy 3. Have a prefers reduced motion rule 4. Add a way to pause / resume the video
