Any way to reduce artifacts and high cpu usage?

Hi guys, I have quite a beefy pc (rtx 5090 & 9950x3d) and followed a guide that seems to be a bit dated (using chunky to pre-render 5000x5000 size) and when I finished the render, there was quite a few artificats and visual bugs. I've VERY new to using mods in minecraft, so assume I know NOTHING, but i've seem people mention Chunky, c2me, and big blobe. What mods do I actually need and what is the best for both compatibility and visuals for a smooth experience? Essentially all I want is to be able to have a higher render distance with shaders, and lower cpu usage (or even to just smooth out and choppiness). I'll include the mods I've got downloaded - Cheers in advance!

Using Chunky to pregenerate for DH is not recommended for several reasons. The first one is the swiss cheese that might show up when using chunky while DH is installed. The second reason is that it's pointless, as DH has a build in pregenerator that is better integrated than chunky: - It saves space by only storing LODs, not normal chunks - It is faster to use DH's pregenerator to generate the LODs than first using chunky to generate the normal chunks, and then using DH to convert the normal chunks to LODs - It is part of DH, and therefore always/only called when DH needs it - Chunky calculates it's radius in blocks, confusing the user if they are not aware of this Distant Horizons' built-in LOD pregenerator is enabled by default, and can be sped up or slowed down by changing the Cpu Load in DH's settings, or disabled by turning off Distant Generation. If you want to pregenerate both LODs and normal chunks, set the Distance Generator Mode to Full under Advanced, World Generator. This will of course take up quite a lot more storage space. Make sure you have C2ME installed if you want to use Full, as the generation speed will be crap if you don't. Note, this also applied to other similar pregeneration mods.

you dont need indium. it was made obsolete a while ago. the tutorial you have is really outdated

Don't use chunky, just use DH's built in generator indium is only needed for mc 1.20.x (the mod page specifies that its not needed for sodium 0.6)

Ah okay, thank you! What part does c2me and big globe play in the list of mods? And will I be fine to try again with just the following things installed?

big globe is a world gen mod c2me optimizes world generation you should read the mod descriptions to know what they do

yeah I've just found the original pages, i think i was just a bit confused from the first video I watched where someone recommended chunky and big globe, instead of C2ME and DH's built in generator. Just wanted to double check that there wasn't compatibility issues

whatever tutorial you watched, its very outdated don't take any advice from it

yeah i think so, it was a JBuilds video from around 11 months ago

that guy makes like the same video 50 times and promotes iteration  yea that channel is not good

Ah fair enough, If I'm being honest I'm very uninformed with Minecraft and modding, I just saw a video of a guy using the mod and wanted to give it a try with shaders as I just bought a new pc a month or two ago haha

Do these settings look alright or is there anything I should change? I heard it's easier to leave your pc akf until everything is rendered. My specs are: RTX 5090, r9 9950x3d, 32gb ddr5 RAM.

Perfect, thank you so much man I appreciate the help! Will keep you updated once I've left it overnight to render. Cheers again 😎

If you're leaving it afk to generate you can set it to the highest thread preset Also fyi, its generate not render. Its generating LODs And do you actually want to save chunks? having it save chunks slows generation down
Luke
LukeOP•2w ago
Yeah i'll be leaving it afk so I've set it to the paid for whole cpu setting Does saving the chunks have an impact on performance?

bit of an update! I just made a new world with a lod render distance of 350 chunks, it took me about 20 minutes to finish generating. Looking great with a shader!! Only issue I had was with Big Globe, it took a painstakingly long time, and again, I suffered issues with weird bugs as it led to my render crashing a few times

I'm starting a new generation with 1024x1024, and i'm also planning on getting some visual mods to pair with, thank you for the help guys, I really appreciate it!!!!!
