issues with hearts of iron 4
playing hearts of iron 4 and gets later in the game 1939 1940 range massive stutter an have to push the power reset button to be able to restart. anyone else that have had this problem?

am not sure if its a bazzite problem or if it is a issue with hoi4
i have not tried to force proton, but it should be compatible with linux normaly
do you mean the whole operating system becomes unresponsive? or just the game
try switching to Proton Experimental or GE, native seems borked

unfortunately many native linux ports are plain garbage
i have not been force using proton, i believe the game works without it normally. but yeah i play the whole system becomes super laggy and barely responsive as i was able to close the game once and the system was chugging still after the game closed
try switching to Proton GE or experimental and if that still doesn't help, try monitoring your ram usage during gaming, it sounds like you might be running out
Native does not always equal to better unfortunately :crying:
Hoi4 is one of the exceptions, loading takes half the time compared to proton and windows (!!) amd perf was mostly equal back when I played
when every report on ProtonDB recommends to switch to Proton then that's a pretty clear case of 'garbage port' to me
They forgot to force discrete gpu
The game uses OpenGL so on laptops it will use iGPU

* hoi4 lagging on late game is pretty much expected behavior. It's just the way it is.
* If you have a laptop, the game will use iGPU and you need the following parameters:

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command% if on nvidia gpu
* * DRI_PRIME=1 %command% on AMD gpu
* If you have only iGPU, turn off high resolution rendering from game's settings.
* You can try proton but I don't recommend it, Stella does. I played native on a literal potato by today's standards* so I know it works. Your choice.

if you have a laptop with iGPU try the launch params, they should solve your problem
do you have 8 GB RAM or less?
I will try it out as it does have an igpu and a 3060. 16gig ram
