Can someone help me?

To help you, we need a game log. Please see the following images on how to get it.

Run this command in Konsole:
Restart Heroic after that
variable-limeOP•4w ago
It worked. But now the game is crashing in the loading screen images
Got another game log?
variable-limeOP•4w ago
07f0:fixme:seh:WerRegisterFile (L"C:\\users\\steamuser\\AppData\\Local\\Rockstar Games\\Red Dead Redemption 2\\CrashLogs\\RDR2-20251020-223205-1816.crash.log", 2, 1) stub
That log might be helpful (the path is relative to your Wineprefix, so it's /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/CrashLogs/RDR2-20251020-223205-1816.crash.log)
Also, you seem to have changed your Wineprefix path. By default, it's /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Red Dead Redemption 2/
Ideally change it back to have an isolated prefix, sharing a prefix between games can cause many issuesvariable-limeOP•4w ago
I didn't change the prefix
Did you perhaps use the "Reset Heroic" button in the Advanced settings at some point? It resets the prefix to that path as well
variable-limeOP•4w ago
Yes, I did
So I should use the same path for the prefix and for the game folder?
Didn't know that
No, your game install path is at
/home/deck/Games/Heroic/RedDeadRedemption2
You do not want to make those two the same folder. It doesn't really matter where your Wineprefix is, as long as it's its own folder. The default path I sent above is just easy to remember since it's the default
Oh it's a flaw in the config system, but one that's rather hard to fix for... complicated reasons
You didn't do anything wrong therevariable-limeOP•4w ago
So, what should I do to fix this issue?
- Set your Wineprefix to the path I sent above
- If that alone doesn't resolve the issue, send in another game log. If the log mentions a crash log, you can also send that in
variable-limeOP•4w ago
/home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Red Dead Redemption 2/
This one, right?
Yes
variable-limeOP•4w ago
https://0x0.st/Kjf0.log
It happened again
Right, send in this log then:
07ec:fixme:seh:WerRegisterFile (L"C:\\users\\steamuser\\AppData\\Local\\Rockstar Games\\Red Dead Redemption 2\\CrashLogs\\RDR2-20251020-225159-1808.crash.log", 2, 1) stub
(C: is <Wineprefix>/drive_c/, the rest of the path is the same)variable-limeOP•4w ago
For some reason, I'm unable to send the log file
variable-limeOP•4w ago
variable-limeOP•4w ago
Hm, nothing in there really. The game crashes right after it initializes
This might sound obvious, but have you tried verifying your game files?
variable-limeOP•4w ago
I already uninstall and reinstall the game several times, but it continues to crash
And I tried with GTAV and it crashes too
But for other games, that not from Rock Star, it went well
How can I do it? With verify and repair option?
Yes
variable-limeOP•4w ago
Did that, but didn't work

Did you ever disable the readonly state of SteamOS (sudo steamos-readonly disable) to modify it in any way?variable-limeOP•4w ago
No
I'm desperate. I don't know what to do anymore
I just changed the time zone from Dublin to London, because Rock Start gives an error when trying to login if I set the timezone to Dublin
I even deleted the Prefix folder, uninstall the game and then install it again
Even that didn't work
Uninstalling & re-installing the game will not do anything. You can always achieve the same effect with "Verify & Repair", usually that's significantly faster
I don't know why this issue is happening. I don't think those locale-related messages are normal, although I've only briefly used my Deck while it was set to a language other than English

I change the Wine Version from GE-Proton-latest to GE-Proton 10-9 and it worked
Finally!
Yup, that was it. The two latest versions of Proton break the game. The remaining ones works
So 10-19 works, but 10-20 and 10-21 don't?
deep-jade•4w ago
https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher/issues/4998 I understand this was you? I think the issue belongs to the ge-proton repo, not heroic's

With 10-9 it worked.
I tried with 10-20 and it worked too. But with 10-21 it crashed.
Yes, it was me.
Ok, thanks for the info.
Do you know the link for the proton repo?
I'll contact GE about this once I've reproduced this issue
@Pad.Trick sorry to bug you, but you've reported the game working here: https://discord.com/channels/812703221789097985/818939492244258826/1430234465757696060
Could you perhaps also try GE-Proton10-21 & see if you run into the same issue?
adverse-sapphire•4w ago
no problem.
i tested GE10-21 on release. the RockStar Launcher is borked with wine_wayland. (we had this issue before, was fixed. now it's returned.).
xwayland works fine on my end.
I see. Wayland shouldn't be enabled by default though, right?
variable-limeOP•4w ago
Ok, thanks! So I'll delete my issue from the Heroic's repo
adverse-sapphire•4w ago
wine_wayland shouldnt be enabled by default. i have enabled it in /etc/environment. most stuff works and i test alot. for the few titles that arent supporting it i disabled it in the startoptions or change proton version.
my system if it helps: https://gist.github.com/PadTrick/95b331cebf3118aca02c71cb66f6d7d9
variable-limeOP•4w ago
Issue closed
Sorry to bother you @CommandMC, can you give updates regarding this subject as soon as you have them, please?
Thanks in advance.
adverse-sapphire•4w ago
what do you mean. The Game works fine. Must be on your end.
there is only a issue on latest protonGE if you enabled proton_wayland, the default xwayland works fine.
variable-limeOP•4w ago
That's what I want to know. Because, this issue only occurs when I use the last version of Proton, in this case Proton 10-21 version
adverse-sapphire•4w ago
that version is the one i was mentioning as latestGE. works like a charm with xwayland on my end. only proton_wayland is atm broken.
you can always report a issue on GE's github and check releases etc.
