My Rog Ally X has some crucial issues...

Hi there so my rog ally x 2024 on bazzite has been a delight but there is a crucial issue and I have searched the discord to make sure no one had the same issue and im pretty sure nobody has. It randomly disconnects from wifi, and either the wifi options disappear or are just unreachable. I turned off fast boot in the bios and the problem persists. Thanks for all the help.

a lot of people complain about the wifi but its always their wifi mediatek chip eh

I also have this issue on my original rog ally. When it fails the wifi adapter no longer even lists available access points. Removing and reinserting the wifi kernel modules temporarily fixes it. It seems to be very dependent on the wifi routers/APs for me. On my two unifi ac access points: 2.4GHz seems to never fail 5GHz with 80MHz channels the wifi stops within a few gigabytes of traffic. Downloading a game on steam is the most reliable way to break it. 5GHz with 40MHz channels seems stable for as long as I tested it. On a cheap Cudy wr3000 all channel widths on wifi 5 and 6 seems stable so far. I mostly tested 80MHz and 160MHz so far. Funny thing is the Cudy access point also has a mediatek wifi chip. This issue is very intermittent for me so it is possible everything that has been stable so far could still fail after enough use.

there was a bug in testing a few weeks ago other than that, be careful with dualbooting that increases chances of failure

I have gone as far as removing and reinsterting the battery to try and force a power cycle for the wifi card and it did not seem to make a difference. Also every other fastboot disabling recommendation. Didn't seem to help. I'm not saying windows and fastboot won't mess up your wifi, I'm just not convinced it is messing it up in my case.

Boot windows and shutdown cleanly That's the only thing that will help If the issue occurs shortly after using windows

um. Huh i still have this issue. closing windows cleanly doesn’t fix it for me i wish my problem was analyzed and not a stranger who took over the thread. Oh well. Guess its time for an Xbox Ally X.

:desolate: yikes. this server was my last landline unfortunately. You think a clean redo of Bazzite would be worth trying?

welp my shits as good as bricked. works fine in windows but why waste time with an hour of battery from windows… very unfortunate I guess final question, ive opened my ally to adjust the storage so im not afraid to go in there, could it be that a piece of hardware inside my ally is loose?

Possible, I'd check the antenna cables just in case

Ok thanks a lot. The weird thing is connection never flickers nor do i get any wifi issues when in windows. Very confusing. Ill definitely check out the cables, if that doesnt fix it, i might just switch to steamOS fully- maybe that’ll fix it

If that's the case, I'd check the wifi channels in your house. It could be that Bazzite has a worse driver for the wifi card that isn't playing nice with your wifi setup. I know I have devices that don't want to connect to my 5 GHz wifi channels if they're in DFS channels, or if I'm running my 2 APs on 2 different channels and the device has to swap between APs

Did you turn off fast startup in windows

yeah very early on. It solved the issue for a little but it started happening again i dont know what most of this means. should i try and use 2.4 wifi you’re saying? Instead of the 5 Ghz one?

You can try that, just to see if things are better. Or tether from your phone
