uploading already existing photos

if a photo is uncategorized and i upload the album that it came from, will ente categorize it? if that doesnt work, do i have to remove everything and start over? PS. Most of my photos are uncategorized and i am wondering how to associate them w the folder they were uploaded from.

When you upload individual files or a folder without nested subfolders, the desktop app will ask you to either upload to an existing Ente album or create a new album, suggesting a name based on the folder. See https://ente.io/help/photos/features/albums-and-organization/albums for more information. If photos from a new album on your device don't appear in the corresponding Ente album, they may have already been uploaded to another album. To fix this, go to the "On Device" album in Ente, select all photos, and manually add them to the corresponding album in Ente. More information can be found at https://ente.io/help/photos/faq/albums-and-organization#ios-new-album. Ente uses a hash-based system to identify duplicate files during uploads. If the same file already exists in a different album, Ente creates a symlink (reference) instead of storing it again, so the file appears in both albums, but storage is only counted once. More information on duplicate detection can be found at https://ente.io/help/photos/features/backup-and-sync/duplicate-detection#how-automatic-detection-works. -# If your issue is resolved, feel free to use the /solved command to close this thread.
