External display on hybrid machine

question

I'm trying to get gaming mode to properly output to an external display from my gaming laptop

I got the name of the display connector with kscreen-doctor and set the

OUTPUT_CONNECTOR

OUTPUT_CONNECTOR

flag in the gamescope session conf but that didn't do anything.

I set the preferred GPU output with

export-gpu

export-gpu

and that works but if I try to use the computer without the external display plugged in it stops working properly (won't switch to the laptop screen when unplugged and won't output to the external monitor when rebooted)
