Restoring a backup after a reinstall
how do you "restore a backup"?
like I had to reinstall, and now I'm on the live iso with my system in one partition and my home + var + etc folder backup in another
which supposedly should contain all the modifications I ever did to the system
can I just copy the folders over?

You can look at this documentation : https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/Updates_Rollbacks_and_Rebasing/rolling_back_system_updates/
Rolling Back System Updates - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
that doesn't really solve my problems though...
Oh sorry I read it wrong, you can backup /etc, and /home but /home is quite heavy because all apps are there, so maybe its better to backup specific files, the one you modified
and the whole ~/.config folder
