Is open source not for new dev?
I'm a self-taught backend developer. I’ve seen a lot of videos on YouTube saying that open source is the best way to get a remote job. But I also watched a video from Theo where he explained why open source isn’t helpful at all for getting a job as a new developer.
What do you guys think about open source?

the point he's trying to make is you shouldn't be contributing to a random open source project, but rather some project you really care about
Really appreciate your response.
Use Open source projects if you like them, if you find problems or feature you want to fix, implement it and do a PR, don't force yourself to contribute to open source, if it will happen is good and is gonna be a plus, but don't live and focus thinking "oh i need to find issue in any open source project to fix so i can show that i contribute to it"
I really appreciate your response
You should find a project really like and make contributions to it, just making random contributions for things you don’t care won’t make a difference. If you can make contributions fine otherwise there is other ways to gain experience
What advice do you give your younger version of yourself to get a dev job?
I would pick a stack and get good at it, for example, you want to learn web development ? Then you follow a roadmap and get good at it and then you gain more deep knowledge just about Frontend.
It’s ok to both know frontend and backend but you need to master one of them, otherwise you’ll just end up being decent at both instead of being really good at one. It’s what they call full stack, and never liked this job.
Yes, I think it's true. I'm focusing on the backend
