My linux install is not appearing (dual boot seperate drives)
Hey guys I need help Im stuck tried my best looking up things and trying it but I had no luck
Things I've done so far:
- I followed the wiki step by step multiple times
- I followed two videos step by step and it didnt work either i dont know
- Tried installing it to rufus or ventoy on my 64gb usb stick no luck
I go through all the installation steps, I click automatic as its for my second SSD clear it all out and let it do its thing. I also did manual partitions following a vid no luck there. Then I eventually get to the blue menu to do the secure boot key thing type that in correctly and reboot. Then when it reboots I just go back to windows.
I tried looking in the boot order / boot drives area on my MSI motherboard but this drive doesn't appear at all. Just my USB stick and windows boot
Secure boot is off. My hardware is a 7800x3d and 9070xt. With two m.2 ssds
The ISO I used was not the live beta one
I selected for it
Desktop, AMD 4xx, KDE, traditional desktop
Which im sure is correct

does your BIOS have a boot from file option?
it's possible that the installation went fine
the BIOS just didn't respect the installer's request to add bazzite to the boot menu
with the boot from file option we can just manually tell it to boot bazzite's bootloader
im not sure i have a msi mobo
if there is no boot from file option in the setup tool
you might have an EFI shell in the boot menu
did you see that one before?
if it's installed you should just see it along with the bootable drives
can't miss it
if it's there
idk how to get to the efi shell
looked online barely any info on it
ill try look for boot from file option
if you didn't find the efi shell option immedietely you probably don't have it built in
this is what the bios looks like (its a image from online as im not on my pc atm to take an actual picture
usually you are able to select the boot priority and the linux drive appears idk

yeah if UEFI shell was built in it would show up under fixed boot order priorities
got any other ideas? i used rufus, ventoy, made sure i got the right image
tried installing it multiple times step by step
Secure boot off
my hardware is 7800x3d and 9070xt
usb stick is 64gb
yes i do have other ideas
to at least get into bazzite once
you know how you get the little menu when you boot the installer usb
well that can help
on that menu you can press c
which lets you enter commands
the command you need is
chainload PATH_OF_BOOTLOADER.EFI
after we get to bazzite we can do other stuff
to hopefully permanently fix italright ill do it tomorrow and let you know what happens thanks
some bioses are dumb and hide the boot options between another entry, like it would say 'Hard Drive (Windows) ' or something and then you need to go to a sub-menu and select 'hard disk properties' or something and then it would let you pick linux
either way please send pictures of the bios so we can take a look
It says the command doesn't exist:/
I made sure i typed it correctly
Im going to update my bios to the latest and hopefully maybe this is just a bug with the bios and maybe it'll fix it
please send pictures of the bios so we can help
the entry may just be hidden in a sub menu
it almost definitely does
where are you typing it in?
In the black menu thingy when you get the option to install or test
I pressed C in there and typed it in
Unless that's the wrong area?
that's correct though you don't type the command literally we just gotta find where the EFI partition of bazzite is
the bootloader file is on there
we can do this from grub
Solution

I think i may of have found what you are talking about
Hopefully this works
YES THATS IT
fedora is correct
Aight well Im in!
Weird ass msi motherboard
Thank you guys for the help π
Main reason for the install was to try and fix my new index
Couldn't update it on windows, even with a fresh reinstall or going to plug it into a friend's pc
And bam it's updated instantly on bazzite ππ
After 2 weeks on steam support trying all sorts of things this is what fixes it

might be worth telliing Steam support
what ended up working
you tried 2 PCs both running Windows one has a fresh install
this really feels like the Windows version of Steam has the problem
informing Steam support could help fix it
