Bazzyte system freeze during regular use

Happened while having some regular stuff open like Zen Browser, Spotify, Vesktop. Screen was locked, Spotify worked if I controlled it from my phone lol

I'm no linux wizard, but there are a couple entries related to BAR and ACPI. Is Resizable BAR enabled in your bios ?

it is I did change my RAM out recently, not sure if that's in any way related

ah, maybe it's for all the software that was open during that time?

seems to happen quite a bit ill do some digging I see a line earlier on that says: Nov 10 15:12:26 kernel: Oops: general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0x40000000000030: 0000 [#1] SMP NOPTI And then a dump that suggests an issue with TTM (memory that is mapped to your GPU) And a lot of warnings about VAAPI I also noticed you had this kernel param amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xfff7ffff Are you using lact to change clocks? Maybe turn that off temporarily If im correct that means the amdgpu driver tried to access memory outside of the normal addressable range

I have LACT installed but never really used it for anything
maverick
maverick7d ago
I doubt it just being installed would cause the issue.

welp, something crapped out again just now, though it was a short black screen and then all my apps starting back up again

a this boot log just in case

you swapped out ram? do you have xpm profile on?
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
I did. I just now disabled and then re-enabled it, since I didn't do that after mounting them and they went straight to xmp on first boot
maverick
maverick7d ago
You should look into: 1) Disable hardware accel on apps that use chromium, like discord or spotify 2) I don't know how to, but maybe see if you can turn off vaapi video accel for KDE (lots of warnings and crashes) 3) Disable your intel gpu in bios (probably not a good idea if its a laptop) 4) Memory test/or bios settings

if its cpu hung it could be unstable xpm profile i had this issues before thb xpm profile that comes with ram arent actually the most stable thing SoC Voltage: 1.25V MEM_VDD: 1.35V CPU_VDDIO: 1.35V MEM_VDDQ: 1.35V tCL/tRCD/tRP: whatever your kit says in its EXPO/XMP profile tRAS: 126 (buildzoid changed his tRAS recommendation from 28 to 126 for AM5, watch his video "tRAS on AMD's AM5 CPUs is weird") tRC: 68 tWR: 48 tREFI/Refresh Interval: 50000 tRFC1/tRFC: 500 tRFC2: 400 tRFCsb: 300 tRTP: 12 tRRDL: 8 tRRDS: 4 tFAW: 20 tWTRL: 16 tWTRS: 6 tRDRDSCL: 4 tRDRDSC: 1 tWRWRSCL: 4 tWRWRSC: 1 tWRRD: 2 tRDWR: 16 UCLK DIV1 Mode: UCLK=MEMCLK (1:1 Mode) Power Down Enable: Disabled (also disable "Memory Context Restore" in order to not get BSOD - this got fixed in some newer BIOSes, but not for everyone) this is from "actualoverclocking" i use this for stable ram this is for ddr5

ReactiveOP7d ago
I've not really had issues with XMP profiles before, but I understand that can be hit or miss :LULW: computers were a mistake
maverick
maverick7d ago
i guess its easy to disable and see if the issues go away i'd see if you can disable the intel gpu

we gotta know for sure its not ram man i fucking hate ram
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
especially now with its prices going haywire I'll test out a couple of scenarios with it and see how it fares
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
75% of the problem for bulding pc is ram for me price, unstable xmp profile, etc....
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
Luckily I have my old ram I can swap back to lol it's more than likely xmp :pepe_cry:
amel
amel7d ago
what's your cpu and ram speeds?
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
12700k, patriot viper ddr5 cl30 6000mhz,
30-36-36-76 timings currently trying to see if there's instability with just 2 sticks instead of 4, same xmp profile
amel
amel7d ago
uhhh yeah i've seen numerous reports of 6000 being crash-happy with or without XMP not linux specific, but also in windows
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
so do I get 6400 to fix that :LULW:

iirc best for AM5 is 5600 Mhz
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
was it 4 ram stick before? the moment your pc froze?
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
this is intel brutha
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
was it 4 ram sticks?
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
4 sticks, yep
amel
amel7d ago
oh lmao sorry i wasnt looking right
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
i was never able to get 4 ram stick stable
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
4 sticks at 4800 seemed stable too
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
unless its defaut speed
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
yeah
amel
amel7d ago
but yeah there are known issues with 6000 DDR5 so i think you'll want to try below that
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
also do you know if its hynix a die? or m die?
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
it's hynix, but no clue where to check for which die it was unstable at 5600 too with 4 judge is still out on just 2 at 6k, seems good so far
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
the fastest 2 sticks ram setup known right now is 2 32gb hynix a die or 48gb hynix m die ngl
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
yeah, 2 sticks might be the best combo :LUL:
amel
amel7d ago
sell the other 2 :clueless:
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
i wanna fucking nuke the mb manufacturer who make 4 ram stick mb they never work properly why even make it 4 slots
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
still in return window! good thing ram prices are skyrocketing right now though :cryguy:

my AM4 board was perfect with 4*8 GB :fgo_jeanecena:
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
most of the stuff I bought in the past is at least 2.5/3x the price locally
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
yeah ddr4 is kinda ok ish...
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
yeah it might be just ddr5
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
but do memtest though
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
I remember there were many instability issues with ddr5 at the beginning
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
i failed so many damn ddr5 memtest it almost drove me insane
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
planning on that for tomorrow
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
Do try the timing i posted though That one is sorta universal Works on hynix a and m Try 2 slots befire 4 slot (Although im pretty sure its gonna fail 4 slots)
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
if it fails out they go! well, might just keep 2 sticks since prices are gnarly right now (and probably for the foreseeable future)
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
what was the ram config though was it 4stick 16gb each?
Reactive
ReactiveOP7d ago
ye
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree7d ago
ok
Reactive
ReactiveOP6d ago
Tldr it's the ram sticks Funny part is, I get more errors with 2 sticks on xmp than with 4 sticks on xmp Won't bother with this, too unstable for me to want to keep even as backup
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree6d ago
thats a 2 sticks config thats been stable for me keep it for when you feel adventurous :heh_basic:
Reactive
ReactiveOP6d ago
My other set, different brand, aced memtest on xmp Yay for the money I get back outta this :LULW:
Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree6d ago
ram always annoys me to no end god this is bringing back ptsd
Reactive
ReactiveOP6d ago
never had major issues. I was ok with it being fucked with 4 sticks, but even 2 sticks was unstable, fuck that shit right outta here :LULW:
