frozen on this screen
when i hit the done in top left
any ideas guys idk what to do
how long has it been stuck?
25 min
this is my second try
both times it has frozen
is that drive only for linux? as in, not dual booting there?
it is for dual booting
do you have a different screen connected?
no i dont
did you only create the /, /var and /var/home or did you also create the others like /boot?
i created all of them. i’m following pete talks tech yt tutorials
cross check with this https://docs.bazzite.gg/General/Installation_Guide/manual_partitioning/
Manual Partitioning - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
for the /boot, they did 2gb pete did 1gb
would that be the problem
i'm not quite sure, it shouldn't really make blivet fail that bad
if you're stuck and out of ideas you could use the fedora kinoite installer and see if it's also happening there
if it succeeds, you can proceed to install kinoite first then rebase to bazzite
what is kinoite
the base/upstream of bazzite https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops/kinoite/
as listed here https://docs.bazzite.gg/General/Installation_Guide/alternate-install-guide/
Alternative Installation Guide - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
is there any fix to do it through the official installer
i can't say for sure, i haven't used that partitioner in forever as i don't dual boot. so i can use the other partitioner
honestly, i don’t really need to dual boot
i could just go full bazzite
just my two cents : that'd be the more reasonable option. wipe the drive clean, ventoy a usb stick, and get a fresh install of Bazzite, using the correct image for your hardware 🙂
would i
1. be able to install windows easily later? if i needed for some reason
2. would i still run into the crashing problem cuz if so its pointless
1) You could eventually run a vm for Windows if needs be
2) before reinstalling anything, I'd do a memtest with a bootable USB stick, for a few hours (or overnight) to check if there are issues with your RAM
ventoy is not supported with bazzite, it's known to cause issues
also, just a thought : have you disabled Secure Boot in your bios before installing ?
waiiiiiit since i undid the pagefile and all that stuff to shrink my partition, if i put it back would the issue pssoible be fixed
didn't know that, thanks
yes i did
i heard it does something to prevent crashes
can't tell, looks like you've done a lotsa thing that could have gone wrong, I think the safest best is to wipe clean everything and start from there, saving you a lot of headaches xD
would I have to buy a Windows key?
really don't know about that
just tried it again and it froze on me
after reenabling pagefile
this is pmo so bad
really, memtest should be your next step. Something is wrong with your hardware, I'm afraid
dang really
i’ll try
how should i
freeze is usually due to bad drivers/hardware fault
Memtest86+
Memtest86+ | The Open-Source Memory Testing Tool
Memtest86+ is an advanced, free, open-source, stand-alone memory tester for 32- and 64-bit computers (UEFI & BIOS supported)
I've not been on a desktop for a long time, I have a laptop rn, but the testing procedure was: remove every peripherals and memory from your motherboard, then try to boot (on a live usb, for instance), and run tests. If tests pass, replace each ram stick, one after another, test it, then all ram sticks together, test them, then add GPU, test, then disk drives, test
you should find the culprit along the way
I’m on a ROG. ally x
oh
then memtest first thing
I don't know how ROG ally works, can you replace the ssd?
yes if needed
to me, it really smells either like faulty ram, or bad ssd
especially if the machine freezes while no drivers are loaded
always my luck
well thanks for the help i’ll try and see
godspeed!
