How start?
Hi guys, I just downloaded the mod and I’m not really sure how to use it. I just created a new world and I saw that Distant Horizons no longer needs Chunky, so what should I do now? What value should I put in the LOD Chunk Render Distance Radius? Can someone help me? I’m not very good with Distant Horizons. (1.20.1 forge)

the dh distance is in chunks just like the vanilla distance i don't know why people think it's blocks all the time

Just yeet it into the mods folder and start it up, for most users the default settings are fine
I would also recommend you install c2me to speed up LOD generation
i can't find c2me forge
All you really need to know is that LODs wont just instantly appear, you have to give it some time to generate
is it?
Use the fabric version and Sinytra connector
ok
how much longer i need to stay on the spawn point with 252 ?
i mean to pre generate
It should give you an ETA
It depends per system, but you can also just set the CPU load low and play while it generates in the background
And with the Distant Horizons chunk generation, can I actually go explore those areas or are they only for viewing from far away? Like, if I want to see the terrain up close, do I need to travel slowly so it generates, or once the LODs are loaded I can go there normally
why would you not be able to go there
DH shows you what is in the distance, if you go there, it wont be in the distance anymore because you will be at that location
That is how travelling to a place works
Do you mean does it also generate vanilla chunks? If so, it only generates vanilla chunks if you set the generation mode to "Full"
Sorry, but from what I understood, the LODs that Distant Horizons pre-generates are like a kind of hologram, so if I want to actually go to those far distances that are already “loaded” by Distant Horizons, I still have to travel there slowly, right?
.
You can compare it to a hologram, yes
ohhhh
they get out of the way for vanilla rendering to come up
you never have to wait for anything either
they are meant to keep building up in the background
For a “complete” pregeneration, is Distant Horizons’ pregen still the better option, or in this case is Chunky more useful? I’m planning to pregen something like a 5000 radius.
5000 would be 80km in each direction
Distant Horizons
!chunky
Using Chunky to pregenerate for DH is not recommended for several reasons.
The first one is the swiss cheese that might show up when using chunky while DH is installed.
The second reason is that it's pointless, as DH has a build in pregenerator that is better integrated than chunky:
- It saves space by only storing LODs, not normal chunks
- It is faster to use DH's pregenerator to generate the LODs than first using chunky to generate the normal chunks, and then using DH to convert the normal chunks to LODs
- It is part of DH, and therefore always/only called when DH needs it
- Chunky calculates it's radius in blocks, confusing the user if they are not aware of this
Distant Horizons' built-in LOD pregenerator is enabled by default, and can be sped up or slowed down by changing the
Cpu Load in DH's settings, or disabled by turning off Distant Generation.
If you want to pregenerate both LODs and normal chunks, set the Distance Generator Mode to Full under Advanced, World Generator. This will of course take up quite a lot more storage space. Make sure you have C2ME installed if you want to use Full, as the generation speed will be crap if you don't.
Note, this also applied to other similar pregeneration mods.If I want to travel from 0,0 to a distance of 0–5000, what value should I set?

312 chunks would equate to about 5000 blocks
I really appreciate your patience. I know this might sound silly, but before this conversation I understood very little about Distant Horizons, and now I understand a lot more. Thank you
